THE RELATIONSHIP
BETWEEN
CULTURE, SCIENCE,
AND TECHNOLOGY
Presented by Hana, Daniel, and Tarshan
Introduction
A brief outline

The sciences, especially the natural sciences, were for so long, and by
so many, taken to be divorced from culture that their great
interpenetration with culture remains surprising and, in some circles,
controversial. In recent decades, historians, sociologists, and
anthropologists of science have documented many ways in which
cultural influences have affected the development of science and
technology, and in which science and technology have left an
imprint on seemingly far flung aspects of culture.
WHAT IS...

CULTURE? SCIENCE? TECHNOLOGY?

Culture is the total way of Science is the study of the Technology is the
life of particular groups of nature and behavior of application of tools,
people. It includes natural things and the materials and knowledge to
everything that a group of knowledge that we obtain solve problems and extend

and makes — its systems,
attitudes and feelings.
Culture is learned and
transmitted from
generation to generation.
How is Science and
Culture Related?
Answer:

'Science’ as basic knowledge, source of

information and foundation of systems;
‘Culture’ as a ‘settlement device’, harmonious
combination of knowledge, practices, social
organization conceived as the instrument of
integration and processing of values,
attitudes and designs. So in general science
in its applications serves the culture and also
helps forming some cultural habits.
EXAMPLE OF THE
RELATIONSHIP
BETWEEN SCIENCE
AND CULTURE
Culture includes habits, tastes, customs, arts and manners. To
perform any kind of an art one needs science to accommodate the
art to provide the art with its tools and to improve its quality and
performance. To paint for example which is art that forms part of a
culture, one needs to know a lot about the usage of colors, the light
effect etc,, which is all science
Technology and Culture
THE RELATIONSHIP
Technology and culture are two forces that greatly
influence one another. As new technology is introduced
into a society, the culture reacts in a positive or negative
way and is thus changed forever. Consequently,
as cultures change so does the technology they develop
How does technology
affects culture?

ADVANCES IN TECHNOLOGY DIRECTLY AFFECT HOW CULTURES

EVOLVE; WHEN CULTURES EVOLVE, THEY TEND TO CREATE
NEW TECHNOLOGY. ALL TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOP IN A
PARTICULAR CULTURAL CONTEXT AS THE RESULT OF
CHANGING NEEDS OR CONSTRAINTS. BUT ONCE DEVELOPED, A
TECHNOLOGY CHANGES THE CULTURE THAT GAVE IT BIRTH. IT
AFFECTS THEIR CULTURE AND WAY OF LIFE.
RELATIONSHIP
BETWEEN TECHNOLOGY
AND CULTURE
The Example
The twentieth-century city, for example, could not
have existed without the inventions of electricity,
steel buildings, elevators, railroads, and modern
waste-treatment technologies. So technology
"created" the modern city. But it is also clear that
life in the twentieth-century city was
transformative for the several generations of rural
people who migrated to them
Let’s look at our
daily schedule to
see how
technology shapes
culture.

You receive a notification on

your smartphone or desktop,
and you stop what you are
doing to check it.
You are out with friends and
someone in the group takes a
photo, uploads it and tags you
in it.
You order your weekly food
shop online rather than face
the queues in store.
Scientific Culture
Scientific culture is a set of norms and
practices and an ethos of honesty,
openness, and continuous reflection,
including how research quality is
judged.

Technological Culture
Technological culture are the human
conventions, norms, rituals, language,
symbols, stories and pastimes that
evolve alongside technology
PRACTICALITY PRECISION AND
