Lilia F. Antonio was born in Balara, Quezon City on 27 July 1949. She is an essayist
and a poet. She has an education degree, an MA major in Filipino and a Ph. D. in
Philippine Studies obtained from UP. She has taught at the DFPP, UP College of Arts
and Letters since 1971. She also became a visiting professor in Osaka University of
Foreign Studies, Japan.

Antonio has translated literary and philosophical works into Filipino like Ang Munting
Prinsipe (Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s The Little Prince), 1969, “Ang Paglilitis (Peter
Weiss’ The Investigation”), in Mga Babasahin sa Pilosopiya: Epistomolohiya, Lohika,
Wika at Pilosopiyang Pilipino, 1974.

She has translated European and American plays for Dulaang UP, among them
Pagkahaba-haba man ng Prusisyon, Sa Simbahan din ang Tuloy (Much Ado About
Nothing) and Anim na Tauhang Naghahanap ng isang mangangatha (Six Characters in
Search of an Author), both in 1976.

Antonio has also done critical studies on Brigido Batungbakal, Hermogenes Ilagan,
Valeriano Hernandez, Macario Pineda and Lazaro Francisco, and wrote a short story for
Binhi, 1967. She wrote the books, Retorikang Pangkolehiyo and S.T. (Sanaysay at
Tula) from the UST Publishing House, 2003. She now serves as the director of UP
Sentro ng Wikang Filipino.
