Introduction
The HUMSS strand is designed for those who wonder what is on the other side of
the wall. In other words, you are ready to take on the world and talk to a lot of people.
This is for those who are considering taking up journalism, communication arts, liberal
arts, education, and other social science-related courses in college. The HUMSS strand
revolves around improving a student’s reading, writing and speaking skills because if you haven’t noticed
yet, people whose choose this strand are aspiring to become members of the society who will be dealing
with a lot of people. (e.g. teacher, psychologist, lawyer, etc.). honing these skills are crucial for them to
establish effective communication with people when they are working. For these reasons, half of the
subjects involved in this strand focus on Language and Speech. HUMSS practices analytical skills in
order to become a successful student than employee, help us in opening up debates that helps us imagine
alternative futures, improves oral and written communication skills, develops global perspective by
studying cultures throughout the world, and it deepens understanding and appreciation of other's cultures
and point of views (Rosalia, 2016).
The HUMSS strand is the least picked strand making it the most underrated among these.
The strand revolves around improving a student’s reading, writing, and speaking skills
because if you haven’t noticed yet, people who choose this strand are
aspiring to become members of the society who deals with a lot of people. (E.g. teacher, psychologist,
lawyer, etc.). Improvement of these skills is crucial for them (Gazeth , 2016).
Have effective communication with others. It focuses on improving the student’s
proper diction. As well as providing insights to the happenings occurring which involves people and

their culture? It also involves the study of political science, contemporary arts, literature and anthropology.
This is for those who likes writing, reading books and other literary works, those who show curiosity to
human history and behaviours. Self-confidence is important to every student, so they can take the
courage to face and to entertain other people in their most comfortable way. et al. (Ellis, 2012) .
Statement of the problem
The general objective of the study aims to explore the Perception of HUMSS
students about the HUMSS in Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School (MHPNHS)
A.Y. 2019

In this study, the researchers want to discover the perception of students about the
HUMSS strand of Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School. The researcher also wants
to discover additional data on the students.
Significance of the Study
Students and respondents- This research attempts to provide useful information
on students who take the HUMSS Strand and be used as additional data for future research
or information to help the students that will take HUMSS.
Parents- this study can be beneficial to the parents, this study will give them ideas
of what kind of support they can give to their children.
Future researchers - This study can be used as a reference for their future
studies in relation to the perception of students about the HUMSS strand.
Scope and Delimitations
This study was conceptualized, the researcher were assigned to get the Perceptions
on the selected students on the senior high school students of Marcelo H. Del Pilar National
High School using the questionnaire.
Definition of Terms
Humanities- Humanities are academic disciplines that study aspects of human
society and culture. In the Renaissance, the term contrasted with divinity and referred to

what is now called classics, the main area of secular study in universities at the time.
Today, the humanities are more frequently contrasted with natural, and sometimes social
sciences, as well as professional training.
Social Science- is the branch of science devoted to the study of human societies
and the relationships among individuals within those societies. The term was formerly
used to refer to the field of sociology, the original "science of society", established in the
19th century. In addition to sociology, it now encompasses a wide array of academic
disciplines, including anthropology, archaeology, economics, human geography,
linguistics, management science, media studies, musicology, political science,

Perception- The ability to see, hears, or become aware of something through the
senses.
Methodology
Research Design
This is correlational study and non-experimental quantitative research and
the condition of data gathering procedure for classification based on the level of
investigation of the researchers, it is considered as a descriptive study.

Research Instrument
The researchers prepared a survey questionnaire consisting of different statements
in order to analyze the possible perspectives of the respondents. The research instrument is
composed of twenty (20) items.
Respondents and Sampling Method
The respondents of this topic are the Senior High School Students in Marcelo H.
Del Pilar. The researchers utilized the stratified random sampling and Slovin’s formula in
determining the number of respondents.
Data Gathering Procedure
The researchers were requested permission from the principal to distribute
questionnaires to the selected senior high school students. In order to collect the needed
data the questionnaires were distributed to the selected respondents which is the senior
high students who were requested to answer. These were gathered after the respondents
were done in answering.

Data Analysis
1. Profile of the respondents
1.1. Age
Majority of the respondents were at the age of 16 and above.
1.2. Gender
There were Male and Female respondents. There were twenty eight (28) males
and thirty two (32) females.
A. Tables and general discussions in order to help the people understand the
analyzed data. Measures of the data result will measure the variability or describe
the dispersion of the data in the questionnaire.
B. The percentage will be calculated by dividing the responses of the total number
and be multiplied by 100. This method will help determine the results of the
respondents
C. The slovin’ formula was used to determine of samples per school, selecting 95%
confidence coefficient and 0.05 margin of error (e). This was given by the
following formula: n=N1+Ne2

The respondents are mostly grade 11 Senior High School students of all strands who are
currently studying and have more insight thus making them a great source of data and
respondents due of more knowledge on these questionnaires.

Respondents about the HUMSS Strand. It also reveals that the respondents “agree” on most
of the indicators about HUMSS.

Table 4 shows the Correlation Analysis on the Relationship Between Respondents
Profile And Perceptions About The HUMSS Strand. Based on the computed result, only
the sex of the respondents has a significant relationship on the perceptions about the
HUMSS strand. It implies that sex has an impact on choosing HUMSS for the students.
