My experiences
I am a junior that goes to Bradford Area High school. I do not take failure as an option,
so I give everything to anything that comes my way. Some of my hobbies include, eating
healthy, bowling, running cross country, and volunteer work.
“Can I get three volunteers for the Big 30 game,” Coach Tesena said. I was one of those
three volunteers at the big 30 game, I sold tickets at the gate. Another time coach asked for
volunteers was when the Italian Festival was in town, he had asked for people to help him sell t-
shirts. Ryan, Zach, and I helped him for two hours, he was grateful for because we helped him. I
also work at the bowling alley on Sundays, this is when the Special Olympics are going on. I
help the people get their shoes on and help them find what bowling ball fits them the best. I
enjoy volunteer work because I feel like I'm making a difference in my community.
“Go back to basics,” is what my grandpa said when I started to struggle in a bowling
tournament. Bowling has always been my sport, ever since I was a little kid. Bowling has always
been my favorite sport/hobby. I come from a family of really good bowlers, my grandma,
grandpa, papa, and my dad. All of these people have had a positive effect on my outlook in
bowling and how I actually do on the lanes. For the last four years I have gone to Nationals for
bowling, every year has been an eye-opening experience because of how far away the
tournaments are from home. My first year I went to Nationals it was in Indianapolis, that was so
fun. I got to experience new lanes and meet new people from different states, I even got to talk to
the kid that won the tournament, he was from California. This year I went to Detroit, Michigan,
this was a tough year for the bowling aspect of the long trip. Many people don’t understand how
intense Nationals is, you travel halfway across the county, to bowl against the best in the U.S.
When I do activities, I set a goal. I make sure its accomplishable for me and my time. For
example, last year for bowling, I set a goal to average 210 by the end of the bowling season. A
big goal set this year was to be the fifth man on the cross-country team. However in order to do
that I needed to beat two faster runners on my team, right now I am close to accomplishing that
goal. When I want something, I go after it, I am willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish
goals I set for myself.
As you open my can and read my story as you can see, I have many irons in the fire.
Volunteer work must be my favorite activity to do on my spare time. Bowling is essentially my
other favorite activity to do on my spare time. My drive to help me be productive is tremendous,
so I get tasks done. Like I said in the previous paragraph, I am willing to do whatever it takes to
accomplish my goals with my good work ethic.
