Answers to the following questions:

What is the name of the School?

University of South Florida-Main Campus

How much does it cost each year?

$11,700
What percentage of students graduate?

69%
What is one thing that interests you about this school?

There are 30,918 ungraduated students in their campus.

Submit what you have learned to your teacher about your college research. You can write a short paper
(2-3 paragraphs), you can give a speech (2-3 minutes), or you can create a presentation using a Web 2.0
tool.

I have learned in my college research that to be in this university you have to score 580-650 in the
critical thinking and the math 570-660 in the SAT. Also, you have to score 24-29pts in the ACT to
qualify in this university. I found that the most popular programs in this university are engineering
(6%), social sciences (10%), biological and biomedical sciences (15%), business, management,
marketing, and related support services (15%), health professions and related programs (21%).
Students who return after their first year were 90%.

I have also learned that out of 15,363 students: 72% graduated, 17% transferred, 10% withdrew
and 1% still enrolled. The salary after attending is $43,500. In this university: 48% White, 21%
Hispanic, 10% Black, 7% Asian, 6% Non-resident alien, 4% two or more races, 3% unknown, <1%
Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander and <1% American Indian/Alaska Native. Most awards earned are 4
year bachelor’s degrees.
Part 2

Using what you have learned in this course, you are now going to help out a student named Rafael.
Rafael has problems in four areas:

Physical: He’s gained 40 pounds over the last year.

Emotional: His girlfriend broke up with him and he misses her.

Intellectual: He wants to get A’s and B’s, but is getting D’s.

Social: His girlfriend was his only friend, and he is lonely now.

What Super ELL techniques can Rafael use to improve his life? Do you think his four problems are
connected? Write three sentences giving your advice for Rafael.

Tip 1 – Rafael should do exercise 1 hour every day

Tip 2 – Study every night different subjects

Tip 3 – Make strong connections with neighbors and talk to anyone in school
especially the students that sit alone in lunch.
Part 3 –

Ask a friend or family member to complete the Instant/Lasting Zone chart, focusing on their use of
electronics. How are they using TV, their computers, or phones? Do they watch too much TV? Are they
not using their computer enough to do real work?

Have them share their chart with you and offer some feedback on how they can better use electronics in
their lives. Be sure to let them know that it is okay to spend some time playing video games, texting, or
checking social media, but your feedback and evaluation might lead them to change how they are
currently using their time.

Name participant: Omaylis Colon

Instant Zone ( including time Lasting Zone ( including Time

spent) spent)
Social Media (1-2hrs) Reading (1hr)
Netflix Shows (1-2hrs) Studying on campus (4hrs)
Texting (30min) Working at University (10hrs)
You Tube videos (2hrs) Clean my room (1hr)
TV (1hr) Listen to the news (1hr)
Shopping (3hrs) Play volleyball (30min)
Going on dates (2hrs) Research (2hrs)

What advice did you give them based on their chart?

That they should clean their room instead of watching you tube videos. They
should not waste their time in the Instant zone and that they should do the
lasting zone if they want to be successful in life.

How did they react to your Advice? Have they improved on their daily activities?

They reacted to my advice by doing more than they put in the lasting zone. Yes, I
have seen their progress every day since I told them my advice they have been
working really hard working and doing productive things.
