Get in the Element

Science 10 Element Investigation

DUE DATE: TUESDAY, OCT 8th, 2019


There are many elements in the periodic table. Each element has unique characteristics and with
other elements, creates different compounds and molecules. In this project, you will be
investigating an element and presenting it in front of peers.
In groups of 1-2, you will be required to research an element from the periodic table from the
first 4 periods (or rows). During your research, you will be required to:

Determine some facts about the element such as:


- Number of subatomic particles
- Mass, symbol, atomic number
- State of element at -150°C, 0°C, 150°C
- Who discovered it and when was it added into the periodic table
- Known isotopes in nuclear notation
- How it is obtained and manufactured for human uses
- How have indigenous people used the specific element (if they did at all)
- Any WHMIS symbols for this specific element
- What its main purpose is used for today – with a token item symbolizing the element
- What it is as an ion – orbital drawing of ion
- What common compounds the element is found in

You will also need to create a model of the element as a Bohr orbital diagram
You can present your information in a format such as:
- Poster
- PowerPoint/Prezzy/etc.
- Picture Book
- Collage
- Another way approved by the teacher 😊
