Instructions for completing the Primary Schools Mini-Basketball Scoresheet

Scorekeeper

The scorekeeper is responsible for the Scoresheet and operating the alternating possession arrow.

1. Print the names and numbers of the players clearly.

2. At the start of each period and during the game, write an ‘X’ in the ‘player in’ column when a player
enters the game.
3. Fouls are recorded by writing ‘P’ in the Fouls column. Maximum of 5 fouls per player and the
player cannot continue in the game.
4. There are 4 columns for Running Score: 2 for Team A (Home Team) and 2 for Team B (Away
Team). Following a score, FIRST write a diagonal line ‘/’ in the correct Running Score column for
a field goal OR, a large dot for a successful free throw. Move down two spaces for a field goal and
one space for a free throw. THEN write in the number of the player in the blank column beside each
successful score.
5. At the end of each period, rule a line underneath the last score for each team and write the team
scores for each period at the bottom left side of score sheet.
6. At the end of the game, also write in the final score for each team and the name of the winning team
in the box at bottom middle of score sheet.
7. Table Officials sign the score sheet and it is then signed by referee(s).

Timekeeper

The timekeeper is responsible for keeping time and informing referee(s) that time has expired.

The Timekeeper shall measure playing time as follows:

1. Starting the game clock

• At the start of a Period (Quarter).

• During a jump ball, when the ball is tapped by a jumper.
• During a throw-in the ball touches or is touched by a player on the court, if clock has been stopped.
• A last free throw is unsuccessful and the ball continues to be live, the ball is touched by a player on
the court.

2. Stopping the game clock when:

• Time expires at the end of playing time in a period.
• A referee requests a stoppage.
• If a foul has been committed and free throws have been awarded.
The alternating possession arrow is a method of causing the ball to become live with a throw-in rather
than a jump ball.

The arrow indicates direction of play. The opponents of the team who gained control of the ball at the start
of the game (period), shall be awarded possession at the next jump ball situation. Possession alternates
thereafter.
