witty and thought-provoking images. Often depicting

for challenging observers' preconditioned perceptions
of reality. Wikipedia

Quotes
Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what
we see.
Art evokes the mystery without which the world would not exist.
If the dream is a translation of waking life, waking life is also a translation of the dream.
The Annunciation
he objects in this painting appear to be a
metal sheet with bells, a paper cut-out
and two balusters (Magritte referred to
similar objects in his paintings as
bilboquets, a French stick and ball game).
Their enlargement and conjunction with
the landscape creates a feeling of
incongruity recalling the experience of
dreams. In titling this work The
Annunciation, Magritte may have been
alluding ironically to the hostility towards Catholicism shown by the French
surrealists. But the title also suggests that something is about to happen, an
expectation that is central to the eerie quality of this strange landscape.

I have forced myself to contradict myself in order to avoid conforming to my own taste.
I don't believe in art. I believe in artists.
I am still a victim of chess. It has all the beauty of art - and much more. It cannot be
commercialized. Chess is much purer than art in its social position.
The Bride Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors,
Even (La mariée mise à nu par ses célibataires,
même), most often called The Large Glass (Le
Grand Verre), is an artwork by Marcel
Duchamp over 9 feet (2.7 m) tall, and freestanding.
Duchamp worked on the piece from 1915 to 1923,
creating two panes of glass with materials such as
lead foil, fuse wire, and dust. It combines chance
procedures, plotted perspective studies, and
laborious craftsmanship. Duchamp's ideas for
the Glass began in 1913, and he made numerous
notes and studies, as well as preliminary works for the
piece. The notes reflect the creation of unique rules
of physics, and myth which describes the work.

Quotes
Colour is a means of exerting direct influence on the soul.
There is no must in art because art is free.
The artist must train not only his eye but also his soul.
Kandinsky’s Composition VII is
justly considered to be the apex of his
artwork before the First Word War. More
than 30 sketches made in watercolors
and oil paints precede this painting,
and they can serve as “documentary”
proof of this work creation. Surprisingly
that after the painter had finished his
long preliminary work, the composition
itself was created for 4 days only. This
can be proved by photographs taken
between the 25th and the 28th of
November 1913. The main theme, which is an oval form intersected by an irregular
rectangle, is perceived like the center surrounded by the vortex of colors and forms. By
means of records and some works examination art historians defined that
the Composition VII is a combination of several themes namely Resurrection, the
Judgment Day, the Flood and the Garden of Eden. Such combination is expressed as a
symbiosis of pure painting. Format:Portrait

European artists Claude Monet's

amalgamation of folk narrative and contemporary
At the heart of Rodel Tapaya’s work is his ongoing
amalgamation of folk narrative and contemporary
reality within the framework of memory and history.
Utilizing a range of media — from large acrylic on
canvasses to an exploration of under-glass painting,
traditional crafts, diorama, and drawing — Tapaya
filters his observations of the world through
folktales and pre-colonial historical
research, creating whimsical montages of his
characters. Each work has its origin in Tapaya’s
reflections on a particular time or place that
possesses an enduring resonance, from its
correspondence with the formalistic and
psychological implication of the grid in his earlier
works to protracted ventures which excavate and
interpret myth and folk aesthetics. Inherent in the
work is a tension between objective investigations
of art and the subjectivity of perception and
experience, providing his work with an enigma
that comes from the impossibility to paint a story without revealing inflections
made by the painter’s hand.

Jon Jaylo’s artworks play around a parallel dream world
in where everything is floating surreal and dancing in a
contained universe inspired by poetry. His technical
depictions are often varying in display and style, as if he
himself is never contented with the present stature of his
works. They are constantly evolving in both idea and
form, gradually maturing together with the artist
himself. Scaling this balance, narrating a massively deep
philosophy of thought through a theatrical rendition of
intensely brilliant colors that seem to amuse its audience
and present a status of intellectual complacency.

Anti-Catholic
In the art world of the Philippines there were
- and continue to be – several clear and often
opposing tendencies: nostalgic
representations of peasant life, social
realism, conceptual art and works that
though object-encrusted are anti-Catholic.
Geraldine Javier has responded against all
these tendencies to create a complex and
dynamic body of work. Images of rural life
and nature recur in her work, but are far
from reassuringly comfortable. What she
takes from the social realists is a concern
with painting things and people well, but
her position is a more personal one - one
that may be defined more as moral than
political, and as implicit rather than explicit.
An intuitive artist rather than a theoretically
driven one she has nevertheless been
profoundly affected by studying under
conceptual artists.
