INTRODUCTION (1 to 2 pages)

Work Immersion is one of the course requirements for graduation. A

Senior High School student has to undergo Work Immersion in an

industry that directly relates to the student’s postsecondary goal.

Through Work Immersion, the students are exposed to and become

familiar with work-related environment related to their field of

specialization

to enhance their competence. Specifically, the students are able to:gain

relevant and practical industrial skills under the guidance of industry

experts and workers;appreciate the importance and application of the

principles and theories taught in school;enhance their technical

knowledge and skills, enrich their skills in communications and human

relations an develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation, and

respect for work. These prepare them to meet the needs and challenges

of employment or higher education after graduation.

graduation.Academic institutions are faced with challenges particularly

on the skills they producedwhich do not match the needs of the

industry. A significant number of graduates today are unableto fill the

job openings due to job-skill mismatch. A great number of these skills

found lacking bycompanies are taught in the academe that is, technical,

human resource and conceptual skills. Inaddition to that, these same

skills can also be reinforced through on-the-job training programs. On-

the-job training (OJT) programs are course requirements providing an

opportunity toapply the theories, principles and ideas learned in the

academe under supervision. These trainingprograms expose the

students to work realities which will

ideally hone their skills and preparethem once they get out of the

university or college. A study conducted by the People Management

Association of the Philippines (PMAP) in2006, emphasized the

importance of an effective on-the-job training program.

Grade 12 Senior High School Students have started their work

immersion related to their selected academic track or their selected

vocational course. The immersion trains students and strengthen their

skill or expertise for their work in the future. It is part of the K-12

program which prepares students to work in companies According to

the Department of Education, this program is an 80-hour hands-on

encounter which Senior High Students must experience to open them

to the genuine working environment setting and improve their abilities

learned in school. The Department of Labor and Employment said work

this is an integral part of the K to 12 Program in fully realizing its goal

to produce job-ready graduates equipped with industry- based skills.

DOLE strongly affirms that work immersion contributes to the full

realization of the objectives of the K to 12 Program. Through this

program , the students can be ready for their big step in working and

be comfortable and familiar with business-related conditions in line

with their specialization. Students experience the social interaction in

work environment that would help them as they graduate and face real

life. Work immersion is useful as it enables Senior High students to

Student Portfolio in Work Immersion

decide if what they have chosen in school is what they want to have as

a career. Being able to test their skills and knowledge in practice will

help them develop their career choices.

Objectives of the Work Immersion

career skills, and will prepare them to make decisions on postsecondary

education or employment. It aims to make the learners to appreciate

the importance and application of the principles and theories learned

in school,Enhance their technical knowledge and skills, enrich their

skills in communications and human relations,Develop good work

habits, attitudes, appreciation, and respect for work.

History

The call to serve the rural indigents echoed since the

early '60s when the Philippine Medical Association

introduced the MARIA Project which prioritized aid to

communities in need of medical assistance. The Project

would then be considered a valuable precursor to the

Medicare program, from which a medical care plan for the

entire Philippines was created. On August 4, 1969, Republic

Act 6111 or the Philippine Medical Care Act of 1969 was

signed by President Ferdinand E. Marcos which was

eventually implemented in August 1971.

The Philippine Medical Care Commission (PMCC) was tasked to oversee

the implementation of the program which went for almost a quarter of

a century.

In the 1990s, a vision for a better, more responsive government health

care program was prompted by the passage of several bills that had

significant implications on health financing. The public's clamor for a

health insurance that is more comprehensive in terms of covered

population and benefits led to the development of House Bill 14225 and

Senate Bill 01738 which became The National Health Insurance Act of

1995 or Republic Act 7875, signed by President Fidel V. Ramos on

February 14, 1995. The law paved the way for the creation of the

Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), mandated to

Student Portfolio in Work Immersion

provide social health insurance coverage to all Filipinos in 15 years'

time.

PhilHealth assumed the responsibility of administering the former

Medicare program for government and private sector employees from

the Government Service Insurance System in October 1997, from the

Social Security System in April 1998, and from the Overseas Workers

Welfare Administration in March 2005.

Observation and Insights (1 page)

On my own observation about what I have notice in my training area I

should be able to obey my trainers so I can do my job as a trainee. All

the task given to me are all appreciated by me ii don’t see is as a work

,I see it as a guide and inspiration to finish it well. Conducting a work

immersion is a privilege to do it because it can help us to be

responsible in doing a various task. All the trainers out there was so

very kind and approachable they don’t want us to be out of place

instead they always try’na approach us even though we’re a bit shy-

working all day long is a bit tiring but don’t take it as a negative
