B. Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine effective practices of Montessori Learning Center of

Isulan, Inc. in enriching learners’ English speaking fluency to be adopted by other
schools in Sultan Kudarat.

1. After observing pupils’ learning environment, does this possibly be adopted by

other schools?
2. Do Montessori pupils’ English speaking fluency really rooted from the school
itself?
3. Do teachers’ teaching instructions differ from the other schools?
4. Does learning environment of pupils give enough motivation for learners to be
fluent in speaking in English?

Most schools in Sultan Kudarat especially from far-flung areas are having issues
with figuring out how to motivate young learners to learn English. Thus, this study
sought to investigate the learning environment provided by the Montessori Learning
Center of Isulan, Inc. that is evidently effective in improving its learners in speaking
fluency in English

on the English speaking fluency of the learners.

General Objective

To assess the English speaking fluency of the pupils studying in Montessori

Learning Center of Isulan, Inc.

Specific Objectives

To verify the speaking fluency regarding English as medium of communication

among learners studying in Montessori Learning Center of Isulan, Inc.

To identify the teaching practices of Montessori Learning Center of Isulan in the

enrichment of learners’ English speaking fluency.

To describe the learning environment of the learners in Montessori Learning

Center of Isulan, Inc.

The figure 1.1 as shown above is an operational framework. Whereas, the

independent variable in the “English Speaking Fluency of Learners in Montessori
Learning Center of Isulan, Inc.” and the dependent variables are: “Learning
environment in Montessori Learning Center of Isulan, Inc.”; “Criteria in selections of
English teachers and instructional materials.”; and “Teaching strategies and style and
school policy (English-only policy).”
E. Assumption and Hypothesis

Assumption

The effectiveness of learning environment of Montessori Learning Center of

Isulan Inc. in improving learners’ English speaking fluency.

Hypothesis

There will be a positive significant effect of learning environment towards

learners English speaking fluency.

F. Scope and Delimitations

In general, the focus of this study is directed towards the practices and
environment in MLCI. About small to medium sized Montessori pupils selected through
criterion method from August 14-15, 2019. The study is largely dependent on the
recorded interview which shall evaluate the Pronunciation, vocabulary, accuracy,
interaction and communication of the respondents.

This study will be conducted in Montessori Learning Center of Isulan, Inc in

Dapitan Street, kalawag I, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat with learners from kindergarten to
Grade 6 as respondents of the research.

G. Limitations

Due to the fact that young learners easily get irritated and impatient once
involved in this kind of activity, only small population will be gathered. There would also
be minimal number of hours since this will be conducted during class time to avoid class
disturbance.

H. Significance of the Study

English Teachers- in this study, the gathered practices to be suggested

to improve learners’ English speaking fluency will help English teachers gain insight on
how to motivate their learners learn and speak English better.

Schools around Sultan Kudarat- with the well-researched learning

environment to be evaluated in this study, schools around Sultan Kudarat may adopt the
same environment to help develop learners’ speaking fluency.
Students/Pupils- students and pupils will be enjoying efficient and
effective teaching instructions, thus, they will be motivated enough to speak in English
fluently.

Parents- in order for the parents to get ideas on what interaction they
should employ for them to help their children attain fluency in speaking English.

I. Definition of Terms

English Speaking fluency- The ability of being proficient in speaking using English
as medium of communication.

Learning environment- The place, atmosphere and available learning materials of

the school where the respondents of the study are enrolled.

Montessori Learning Center of Isulan, Inc.- A private school in Isulan Sultan

Kudarat located at Kalawag I known for being one of the pioneering schools in terms of
English.

Pronunciation- to test the correctness of learners’ word utterance and sound

production.

Vocabulary- the coherence and appropriateness of the word usage.

Accuracy- learners’ accuracy in grammar and the content of their answer with
response to the given question.

Interaction- how the learners interact during interview either they show aloofness or
confidence.

Communication- how they communicated their answers either they use hand
gestures or did they stutter or stumble when speaking.

B. Research Design

This qualitative research will use Case study approach to study the case of
phenomenon using multiple data sources and explore it by studying both Montessori
pupils and teachers in their learning environment.

C. Researcher’s Background Beliefs and Biases

Essence: To give some other schools in Sultan Kudarat ideas on how to attain effective
learning environment for English speaking fluency by the gathering practices applied by
Montessori Learning Center of Isulan, Inc.

Participants

The participants of this study are Montessori Pupils who are noticeably fluent in
speaking English.

The participants practice speaking English as medium of communication.

Researcher

The researcher once taught in Montessori Learning Center of Isulan, Inc. for one
year.

The researcher learned that most of the pupils in the school are very fluent in
terms of speaking in English.

Audience

The beneficiaries of this study are the schools in Sultan Kudarat to get ideas on
how to attain the same practice with Montessori Isulan to improve their learners’
English speaking fluency.

D. Population, Participants and Sampling Technique

This study will examine learners’ English speaking fluency in Montessori

Learning Center of Isulan, Inc. from preschool to grade 6. These participants are most
appropriate because they are still on the stage of language acquisition and their learning
environment is yet traceable. The expected number of respondents will be 60 pupils.
This study will use Criterion Sampling technique to search pupils who met the
specified criteria which are those who are fluent in speaking English.

E. Procedure

The study will be conducted on August 14, 2019 at the second week of the month.
AVR room will be occupied to facilitate the 20 respondents per hour within the three
hour-span simultaneously which beforehand, a letter of permission will be issued to the
school authorities.

On August 15, the researcher will conduct one on one interview with pupils to
attest their speaking fluency. Their answers would be documented confidentially and
must be with consent of the parents and the school.

The collected data will be in the form of audio wherein, learners’ one on one
interview will be recorded as basis for data analysis.

F. Data Processing

The respondents’ written answers will be used to support the background

of the population. Moreover, the audios that contain the recorded interviews on pupils
will be assessed whether or not they met the standards for English Speaking fluency:

a. Pronunciation- to test the correctness of learners’ word utterance and sound
