Read the story “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” by Mark Twain and answer the
following questions in pairs. Due date: April 16th
1. Remembering
a. Make a list of the new words you learnt with their definitions or synonyms in English.
2. Huck found the canoe one morning. He went to catch some fish for breakfast.
4. The woman knew that Huck was there. The dogs made the noise.
5. Huck and Tom got Jim out of the hut. They ran down the river.
Conceptual Knowledge: Historical and cultural background
f. Describe the region where the story takes place: Location, important cities, the
towns of the story, weather, and ethnic composition.
g. What do you know about slavery in the USA? Find information about it.
h. In the time the story happened, some regions supported slavery and others were
against slavery. Did the region where Huckleberry lived support slavery?
i. Who wrote the story? Find the following information about the author: Name,
nickname, place and date of birth, occupation, his importance in American literature.

Watch the film “the help” and answer the following questions:

5. Synthesis
a. Which person did you like best in the story? Why? What is he/she like? What does
he/she look like?
b. You are Tom. Write a letter to your brother Sid in St. Petersburg and tell him what
happened after you met Huck near the Phelpses’ house.
c. What do you think will happen after the end of the story? Does Huck stay and live
with Aunt Sally? Does he run away- by himself, or with Tom and Jim? Does he buy a
boat with his six thousand dollars and live on the river? Write another paragraph to
describe what Huck does during the next year.
