openSAP EXERCISE WEEK 2 UNIT 3

INTRODUCTION
These exercises are designed to introduce you to some of the methods we can use to undertake data
manipulation using SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analytics expert tool.

The data to be used is openSAP_STORES_US.csv.

This data set is a short list of US based retail stores.

The data set contains the following variables:

STORE (US City location of the store)
TURNOVER (annual sales for the previous 12 month period for each store $000000)
SIZE (size of retail floor space in 000s of sq. ft. for each store)
STAFF (number of staff members in 10s)
MARGIN (total gross margin per store $00000)

There are 5 columns of data and 150 rows. The columns represent the variables defined above, and the
rows represent the values for each of these variables for each individual store.

This exercise shows how to use a data manipulation in the expert tool to create new variables for analysis.

The new dimension is calculated:

This new dimension can now be used in your analysis. For example, you might want to visualize the
TURNOVER_PER_SQFT and compare it for the top 20 stores.

Go to the Visualize room:

You will see that the new dimension is listed. However, to create a bar chart we will need to create a new
measure from this new dimension.

Other interesting ratios might be TURNOVER per head of staff, MARGIN per head of staff, and the number
of employees per sq ft.

You can repeat this exercise and visualize these ratios for the top 10 stores:
