10th grade English Silent Reading Quarter FOUR Task
This is a MARKING PERIOD long assignment. You will have SOME time in class to do the
reading, etc.
Your project is due: June 1. NO BOOKS THAT ARE MOVIES
MUST BE 200 pages or more
MUST BE high school reading level

Every student in the class will give a presentation to the classno matter which project you
choose.
Every presentation needs to include title and author of book. After your chosen presentation,
you must also give a review of the book.
1. Design costumes for dolls and dress them as characters from the book. Explain who these characters are and how they fit
in the story
2. Make a video summary of the novel: Must be viewable in the class. (youtube is the best way to do this) Summarize
the important events in the novel by acting them out. Must be at least 4 minutes long. Must include all elements of fiction
(Story mountain)
3. Construct a diorama (three-dimensional scene which includes models of people, buildings, plants, and animals) of one
of the main events of the book. Include a written description of the scene.
4. Do a collage/poster showing pictures or 3-d items that related to the book, and then write a sentence or two beside each
one to show its significance.
5. After reading a book of history or historical fiction, make an illustrated timeline showing events of the story and draw a
map showing the location(s) where the story took place.

6. Write an obituary for one of the characters. Be sure to include life-time accomplishments and a picture. Check the Expositor for
sample obituaries (or google it!) You must also write a eulogy that would be read at the funeral. Use this website for sample eulogies:

7. Dress up like your favorite character from the book. Tell us why you are wearing certain clothing items. Give a summary of
the book that includes all main characters and elements of fiction (story mountain). **Must be dressed for entire school day.
8. If the story of your book takes place in another country, prepare a travel brochure using pictures you have found or drawn. A
travel brochure would contain significant places to visit from your novel, local attractions, restaurants, church, a description of the
people, and weather.
9. Make a mobile about the story.
