Edmund Spensor: The Faerie Queene

Book I of The Faerie Queene focuses on the virtue of holiness embodied in the Redcrosse Knight. After battling the dragon Errour, he is tricked by the wizard Archimago into thinking Una is unfaithful and abandons her. The deceitful Duessa then leads the Redcrosse Knight to captivity. Meanwhile, Una overcomes peril with help from Arthur and finds the imprisoned Redcrosse Knight. They recover at the House of Holiness and defeat Archimago one last time before the Redcrosse Knight rescues Una's kingdom from a dragon and the two are betrothed.
