    IDENTIFICATION USING 3D SEISMIC DATA


    INTERPRETATION OF FACTORIAL FIELD IN
    NIGER DELTA

    1.0 INTRODUCTION
    Petroleum is naturally occurring liquid found in rock formations. It consist of a complex mixture
    of hydrocarbon .Over time , the decay residue was covered by layer of mud and silt sinking
    further down into the earth crust and preserved there between hot and pressured layer gradually
    transforming into oil reserve.

    The need to interpret a seismic data after a survey process is carried out is very important to the
    oil and gas industry. Mapping of faults and horizons as well as identification of traps or seal,
    reservoir identification, identifying the pay zones are the major works done in the interpretation
    of a seismic data.
    In this proposed project this are the works to be carried out.

    2.0 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES


    The aim of this project work is identify the prospects on the field

    The objectives are as follows;

    To delineate lithology (reservoirs/non-reservoirs)


    To correlate reservoirs across wells
    Seismic well-tie (picking of faults and horizons )
    To generate time and depth map
    To identify prospect areas

    3.0 PROPOSED LOCATION AND GEOLOGY


    The proposed location is FACTORIAL field in the Niger delta, the field is located at
    latitude ******** and longitude ***** in the Niger delta. The geology of the Tertiary section of
    the Niger Delta is divided into three Formations, representing prograding depositional facies
    distinguished mostly on the basis of sand-shale ratio (Kulke, 1995). They are namely Benin
    Formation, the Paralic Agbada Formation and Prodelta Marine Akata Formation. The Benin
    Formation is a continental deposit of alluvial and upper coastal plain sands. It consists
    predominantly of freshwater bearing massive continental sands and gavels deposited in an upper
    deltaic plain environment. The Benin Formation ranges in age from Eocene to Recent. The
    Agbada Formation underlies the Benin Formation. It consists of fluviomarine sands, siltstones
    and shales. The sandy parts constitute the main hydrocarbon reservoirs. The grain size of these
    reservoir ranges from very coarse to fine. The Akata Formation is the basal unit of the Tertiary
    Niger Delta complex. It is of marine origin and composed of thick shale sequences (potential
    source rock), turbidities sand (potential reservoirs in deep water and minor amount of clay and
    silt). Beginning in the Paleocene and through the Recent, the Akata Formation formed during
    low stands, when terrestrial organic matter and clays were transported to deep-sea water areas
    characterized by low energy conditions and oxygen deficiency (Stacher, 1995; Ige et al., 2011).

    It is the major source rock in the Niger Delta. Most of the traps in Niger delta fields are
    structural although stratigraphic traps are not uncommon. The structural traps developed during
    syn-sedimentary deformation of the Agbada paralic sequence (Evamy et al.,1978; Stacher, 1995).
    4.0 METHODOLOGY
    In interpreting the 3d data, the petrel software would be used (available in the work
    station), on this software the datas would be loaded. The faults would be picked on the seismic
    section as well as other structures identified (folds, domes etc.).
    For the lithology identification the gamma ray log would be used and would be confirmed by
    using the spontaneous potential log, the shale and clean sand base line would be established. The
    resistivity log would be used to identify the fluid in the well and to calculate the resistivity of the
    formation completely saturated with water and resistivity of the formation saturated with hydro
    carbon.

    The porosity log will be use to delineate the kind of fluid(hydrocarbon) therein by the help of
    neutron porosity log as well as density log.

    Suites of logs (gamma ray log, s.p log, porosity log, density log, sonic log, resistivity
    logs)
