Background

New Delhi Visa Section is one of the busiest and most high profile visa departments in the
world. Our team is committed to providing a first class service, and we are driven to achieve
high standards and make fair decisions on visa applications quickly. Our focus is on
balancing the need for a high level of customer service with the requirement to maintain the
integrity of the UK border. We are at the forefront of innovation, reacting positively to
change and ready to try new ways of working.

We work in a fast-paced and challenging environment as part of a large and diverse team of
people committed to achieving clear service delivery goals.

Entry clearance work can be highly pressurised and challenging. It is essential that officers
are able to make sound decisions with minimal supervision which can be justified both orally
and in writing whilst keeping within exceptionally strict deadlines. Successful applicants
should be able to settle quickly into a demanding work environment.

Entry clearance work is front line and frequently in the eye of the media and Ministers. For
many visa applicants it will be their first real impression of the UK. It is therefore essential
that everyone who contacts the visa section be treated fairly, efficiently and courteously.
They may not be happy with the decision but they should have no complaint as to how this
decision was reached or in the manner in which they were treated in their dealings with the
visa section. Of course there will always be times when an applicant becomes disgruntled or
abusive but under no circumstances is it acceptable to respond in kind, no matter how much
pressure or stress they may be under.

Main purpose of job:

As an Entry Clearance Officer (ECO), you will play an important role in ensuring that the
immigration regulations are correctly and fairly applied to all applications for a UK visa so
that only those who qualify are able to enter the UK.

ECOs are expected to analyse information to make decisions which can sometimes be
complex to ensure that a modern, efficient and courteous service is delivered within agreed
standards.

Roles and responsibilities may change during the course of the contract.
