shapeitjustlikeceramicclay,usingsimplehandtoolsorevenyourfingers.

Shrinkageisonly810%.Firingtemperaturesrangefrom1110to1290Fwhichallowsmorestonestobeplacedin
itbeforefiring.Youcanshapeitjustlikeceramicclay,usingsimplehandtoolsorevenyourfingers.
THEPROCESSOFROLLINGOUTCLAY
Workatacleantable.Ifyourrollerpicksupdirtorotherforeignobjectsfromthetable,itwillgetintoyour
clay!Ifneeded,placeacleanpapertowelonthetableforyourrollertolaywhilenotinuse.
1. Placeaplasticmatonaflatworksurface.
2. Dippingthetipsofyourfingersintooliveoil,smeartheoliveoillightlyovertheplasticmat.
3. Wipetherollerwitholiveoil.
4. WipeathincoatingofoliveoiloverthePlexiglassurface.
5. Wipethecutterwitholiveoil,beingcarefulnottocutyourself.
6. Usingastiffbrush,paintasmallamountofoliveoiloveranytextureyouplantopressintotheclay.
7. Wipeasmallamountofoliveoiloverpalmsandfingersofbothhands.
8. Cutoffasmallpieceofplasticwraptoholdtheclaywhilenotinuse.Haveithandy.
9. Decideonthethicknessofyourfinishedclayslab.Usingadeckofplayingcardsplacetwostacksofsame
amountofcardsontotheplasticmat.Theseactasdepthspacerswhenyourollouttheclay,givingthe
clayaneventhickness.
Ifyouaregoingtoputtextureontheclay,thenadd2cardstoeachstack.Thisallowsforthetexture
tobeaddedafterrollingouttheclay.Otherwise,placethetextureontheplasticmat(faceup),andstack
thecardsontopofthetexture.Besuretopaintthetexturewitholiveoilbeforerollingoverit.
10. Removetheclayfromitscontainer.
11. Completeoneofthefollowing:
a. Ifmakingasquarishorroundishpiece,thenrolltheclayinthepalmofyourhanduntilitis
round.
b. IfmakingalongrectangularpiecethenrolltheclaywithaPlexiglas4x6sheetintoasnake
shape.
12. Placetheclaybetweenthetwostacksofcards.
13. Usingtheclayroller(lookslikeatubeorrollingpin),rolltheclayoutuntilitisthethicknessoftheplaying
cards.
Besuretopressontherollerbetweenthecardssothattheclayisrolledevenly.Rollingtheclayout
withyourhandsovertheplayingcardsdoesntgiveevenpressureontheclay.
14. Ifyoudidntaddthetextureinthelaststep,thenremove2cardsfrombothstacks,andrepositionthe
clayoverthetexture.
15. PlacetheflatPlexiglasovertheclay.Thisgivesaniceevenpressureontotheclayandtexture.
16. Usingtheclayroller,applyevenpressuretothePlexiglas,pressingtheclayintothetexture.
17. RemovethePlexiglas,andreplacetheclayontotheplasticmat.
18. Cutclayintothewantedshape.
Makesuretoapplyoliveoiltothecutter.
19. Placeexcessclayintoplasticwrap,keepingitfromdryingout.
20. Ifputtingholesintotexturedclay,dosonowusingastraw.
21. Ifdomingclay,placeitonadomedareatodry.Otherwiseallowtodryflat.
