Just a Minute
Last Monday I had a simple task of gluing a couple of pieces of stack stone back onto the wall. It was a 15 minute job at best! Here is a riddle for you: Why do 15 minute jobs always take 3 hours? For a start my caulking gun was broken so I needed to make a quick trip to Bunnings to buy a new one. On the way I got held up at the train crossing because they were doing upgrades. Then, when it looked like we were all good to go, three trains went through in succession. Then it was time for the workers to hold us up a little longer! I finally made it to Bunnings and picked up the caulking gun. However, being a bloke, I had a quick look at a few other things before going to the checkout. It was then I realized my keys were missing. I tried to think of all the places I might have put them! I went up and down a few aisles and the slow realisation dawned on me that I was now looking for a needle in a haystack. It was no good going to the enquiries counter and saying, I put my keys down somewhere in your store! I know what you are thinking! However, after a long search I found them near the caulking guns. I had put them down on the shelf above and they had slipped behind a stack of Liquid Nails! I went home to finish this simple little job. Just as I started, my neighbour came over to see what I was doing. He is a perfectionist! He noticed there were a few other things that needed attention, and he offered to help me do it right away!! How hard is a 15 minute job!! The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit is working on us to be more like Jesus. That poses a good question: is that a big job or a small job? When you think of a couple of disciples like James and John you migh t think thats only a 15 minute job. They were good men. They left everything to follow Jesus. This surely wouldnt take long! Yet after 3 years we find in Luke 9:46..An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest. James and John then got their mother to speak to Jesus to ask if they could have a seat either side of Jesus in the Kingdom. They wanted to be top of the heap! This 15 minute job was clearly going to take a lot longer! 2 Corinthians 3:18 says, weare being transformed into his image with increasing glory That takes a lot longer than you think!!! God Bless Neil

Used Stamps
The Leisure Club is not having a stamp cutting session this year but we are collecting as many used stamps as you have collected through out 2013. You might remember that I mentioned that we contributed to the $20,000 raised in 2013 - most of it in the last three months of the year. The money went to support the work of Global Interaction. If you are trimming stamps you are asked to leave a good 5mm of the envelope paper around the stamp to get the best price for used stamps. You can give the stamps to Suzanne Stanley-Smith or Doug or Sandy Castle. You can also leave stamps at the church office during the week. Many thanks for your contribution to God's work through Global Interaction.
