Ferdinand Marcos was a Philippine lawyer and politician who served as President of the Philippines from 1965 to 1986. As president, he implemented infrastructure projects but was also accused of massive corruption, human rights abuses, and involvement in the assassination of his main political opponent. In 1986, widespread protests erupted over electoral fraud, leading Marcos to flee the country and go into exile in Hawaii, where he later died. Investigations after his ouster found that he had embezzled billions of dollars in public funds.
