capacity produced by exposures to conditions of the work environment over a period of
time.

No Serious Incidents – no resulting in one or more fatalities or major
injuries, a vehicle crash or derailment, or an evacuation.

Permit to Work (PTW System)

What is a Permit to Work – written authorization which allows a
person to work on a particular job scope.

Cold Work. (for general work excluding the use or exposure of sources of
ignition.)

Hot Work. (for work involving the use or exposure of sources of ignition.
(Welding, cutting, grinding etc.)

Excavation (for work involving excavation on yards or on on-site / trenching.)

Confined Space (for any entry into a confined space)

Electric isolation permit. (for work by electrical staff on electrical
equipment ).

Mechanical Isolation Permit.

Radiography permit (for work involving use of ionizing radiation)

No Permit No Work

Site Safety Induction

Observe all safety Rules

Always have Work Permits

Working on the wrong line can kill

Check with operations, correct line identified,
isolated,depressurized and purged

Display your permits

Before starting check isolations

Remember understanding of the permit to work is most
important to understand the job and safety precautions

Eye Protection

Eye protection are mandatory at

worksites.

Wear the correct type of Eye Protection equipment provided by Company and ensure that is
correctly maintained

Jump to first page

The statistics on eye injuries tell the story – disabling
eye injuries occur every 5 minutes and at least 9 out of
10 could have been prevented. Many of those injured
had an excuse for not wearing their eye protection at
the time of the accident.

Don't lose your eyes. Your ability to

work and support your family may

to protect you against the hazards of contaminants
in the atmosphere

It’s important to choose the right protection for a job, and for it to
be maintained in accordance with the manufactures instructions.

Handtools Safety

The main causes of most injuries involving
hand tools are their incorrect use.

Do Not use home made tools

NEVER use damaged or worn tools; hammers with
loose heads, files with loose or split handles, chisels with mushroom
heads, spanners or wrenches with splayed jaws

All electrical tools and equipment must be
tested and tagged

Inspect all tools before use

Return broken or damaged tools

Excavations

Stay away from excavators (Machinery)

Spoil piled 1m from edge helps to prevent accidents

Excavation permit is mandatory

Guardrails, Barriers and proper access and egress
required

Shoring, Sloping or stepping prevents collapse

Gas test if working in depth more than 1.5m

Scaffolding

Do Not use scaffold without proper
(Green)Scafftag

Only authorized scaffolder allowed to alter
scaffold

Platforms must have guardrails and toe boards

Scaffolding must be on secure footings (Base

Working at height

Do not remove or fit guardrails or grating without a work
permit
• Never climb up onto a handrail to gain extra height. Use
proper scaffolding or ladders.

Beware of falling objects to ground level

Work leader must supervise at all times

Manbasket must only be used with work permits

Life lines and safety harnesses must be worn

Safety barriers must be fitted when working on roofs

Anchor points should be ideally
above waist height.

Correct use of safety harness

Lifting

Check ground conditions

Don’t deviate from lifting / Rigging plan

Check Lifting equipment certification

Inspect all equipment before use” Colour Coding”.

Never stand under suspended load

No riding on loads

Check work permits requirement

LOADS AND BULKHEADS Jump to first page
Cranes

Check outriggers fully extended, crane level and
footing sound

Do not overload cranes

Check that all alarms and load indicators are
working correctly

Check load against crane chart, safe working load

Beware of overhead dangers “live lines”

Only “Competent” authorized operator can operate
cranes

Manual Lift

Correct manual lifting and handling can do a

lot to prevent injuries, which account for a
very high proportion of all industrial injuries.
Once your back has been injured that
weakness can remain with you for the rest
of your life

Do not take cylinders into confined spaces

Remove gas hoses at each break

Read, understand and obey the work permit

by warning signs and barriers

Excessive Radiation can cause
burns and chronic illness

Stay away it is dangerous

Obtain A Permit

Compressed Air
Air at the pressure commonly used to drive compressed air
tools can cause severe personal injuries. Dust and grit can
be blown into the eyes, and a burst hose can whip about and
cause severe physical injury. If compressed air is applied to
equipment not designed to take the pressure, severe
damage can result.

Jump to first page

Compressed Air

•ALWAYS inspect hoses and couplings before use, discard

damaged items.
•Ensure that quick couplings are properly locked together.
•ALWAYS ensure that anti whip safety devices are in place.
•ALWAYS ensure before connecting an airline that the equipment is
designed to withstand the supply pressure.
•ALWAYS shut off the air supply and bleed off the pressure before
disconnecting the hose

Compressed Gasses
Air Oxygen
CO2
LPG Hydrogen
Nitrogen Argon

Acetylene

Special care is required in the storage and use of gas

cylinders. Their contents may be at high pressure,
flammable or potentially harmful

Jump to first page

Compressed Gasses

ALWAYS store cylinders correctly in a well-ventilated area, away from sources
of heat and out of direct sunlight, oxidising gases separate from flammable
gases, full cylinders separate from empty cylinders.

ALWAYS ensure that cylinders are stored in an upright position and secured so
that they will not fall

ALWAYS clearly label and segregate full and empty cylinders.

ALWAYS open the cylinder valve slowly. Do not use excessive force when
closing.

ALWAYS report leaks.

NEVER allow oil or grease to contaminate a cylinder and its fittings, as these
can ignite.

NEVER use cylinders as rollers, work supports, etc.

NEVER test for leaks with a flame, use soapy water.

NEVER use cylinders with leaking or damaged connections.

NEVER tamper with safety devices (Flash back arrestors) on valves or cylinder

Keep walkways clear of tripping hazards - Cables / Hoses , Tools & Equipment
management

Remove all nails from wood

Keep work area at height clean

Remove all rubbish from site daily

Keep hazardous or combustible material in safe designated area

Poor housekeeping causes accidents and injuries

Poor housekeeping delays the work

A Tidy Site is a Safe Site

Waste Management

Segregate hazardous and Non-Hazardous waste

Follow the Government Regulations on storage's & Disposal of
hazardous / non-hazardous waste

Blue Color Skip - General Waste e.g. paper etc.

Brown Color Skip - Wooden Waste

Red Color Skip - Metal Waste

Green Color Skip - Food Waste
