I. The Concept of Teaching

Reflections:

1. State your own view of teaching as a career

Teaching is not at all a career. It is a mission, a mission not only to

transfer information, not only to transmit but to transform the life of the students
holistically.

Before taking up teaching I already knew that teaching is not a course for
earning lots of money, but earning appreciation is the greatest fulfillment I can
receive from my future students. Seeing my future students succeed in life is
considered a reward and an achievement for me.

My goal in teaching is to preserve the Filipino values. We all know how our
Filipino values deteriorate and teaching is the easiest way to save our Filipino
Values.

2. Why is it considered a profession like medicine of nursing?

Teaching is not only about teaching information. It is not just passing facts.
It is also about teaching a person to be whole, to be develop holistically.
Teachers cure every part of an individual. If the Medicine of Nursing cure
a man from the physical pain, teachers’ cure one’s heart to be whole for the
future.
Teaching is like nursing, they do first aid when somebody in the class is
sick, they cure minds, and they cure hearts. If nurses are compassionate,
teachers do too.

3. Why is teaching often labeled as the noblest of all profession?

It is the noblest profession for the Christians’ belief, because Jesus

Christ’s was then a teacher. But if we will go over all the profession nobody
become a professional without having a teacher. Writing, reading, curing,
computing, nursing, cooking, drawing, listening, dancing, singing, experimenting,
building, planning, programming, acting, and leading is taken from teaching.
Everything will be nothing if teachers will be taken away. But a teacher is noble
because they are the one who serve as a model of morality and values to the
students. It is the most decent of all the professions.

4. If you are a prospective teacher, what are some expectations you have now?
After reading this material.

5. What are the best rewards of teaching as a profession?

The best reward of teaching as a profession is not money but being

acknowledged and respected by the students, the parents’ appreciation and
respect is the greatest reward. And most of all seeing your students succeed and
practicing all your teachings in life is the best reward of all.

6. Remember your elementary and secondary teachers. Describe how they taught
the class.

My elementary teachers were very patience in teaching us, they were willing
to wait. They used large and colorful visual aids to attract our attention. They
always follow our every move whenever there was activity. My teachers used
action songs, nursery rhymes, and dance in teaching us.

My high school teachers were stricter. They did not used visual aids but let
the students create the visual aids for the whole class. The teachers allowed us
to move freely, reports were distributed to everybody. More exciting activities
were given such as plays, diorama, living museum, cheer dance, short film
making, and etc. The high school teachers let us to be independent.

7. Will you recommend the teaching profession as a lifetime career to your

children?

Yes I will let my children to have a teaching career. I will tell my children
that it cannot give them money, but it can help them heal little hearts, it can help
them to develop more children to the fullest. I will share to them that teaching will
help the nation to be peaceful and will preserve the Filipino Values.

8. State your own definition of teaching.

Teaching is the pioneer of each and every career in the world. Without
teaching, healing, building, counting, reading, writing, nursing, constructing,
dancing, singing, creating, baking, leading and others is nothing. People are not
in need to be a teacher in able to teach, they just need to love teaching and
sharing so they can teach.

9. Describe one learning episode which could be traced to effective teaching.

Learning cannot be force or be bribe. The effective teaching is when
students learned on his free will. One example of this is when I learned from my
teacher to learn not only about facts but living with the values she used to teach
us.

II. The Learning Environment

Reflections:

1. Describe the school where you have your practice teaching. Would you like to
teach there? Why?
I had my practice teaching at Caloocan Elementary School-Central. It is
small for a huge number of students. But the school tried to give the needs of
the pupils. Some grades were divided into 18sections , some were divided into
10, the reason behind is that they wanted the pupils to be in an appropriate
section where the teacher can easily know what they are in need and what are
they good at. CES has a covered that can be used in playing basketball. They
also have a conference room that is newly built. CES has four buildings the first
one is the Macario Building….
If I will be given a chance to teach in CES, I will not think twice. I will grab
the opportunity gladly. I know I will be a big help in the mission of CES to
transform one’s life.

2. Is the school adequately equipped with the necessary learning facilities?

No. They do not enough learning laboratories as well as libraries that

assist the pupils’ learning. But the school makes their own way in providing
those facilities. Each room has their own TV that can be used in the lesson.
Each grade level has their mini library. School is surrounded by plants that
attract insects which can be useful for the teacher when he is performing an
experiment.

3. How should a teacher relate with her administrators, co-teachers, students and
non teaching personnel?
4. How can you establish a productive classroom atmosphere?
5. In case of misbehavior, how would you settle it in an objective and unbiased
manner?
6. Describe the school where you studied. Was it conducive to learning?
Half of my life was spend at La Consolacion College Caloocan,I personally
chose that school to complete tertiary level for two purposes,
The first reason is to help my mom not to spend so much money for my
education (I am my mom’s scholar and CHED’s scholar too) and second to fulfill
my desire to preserve the Filipino Values. I am happy on my decision, I was able
to attain what I wanted to learn without forgetting God. LCC-C strengthens my
spiritual more and developed my whole being. LCC-C is a good school, I am
proud to be their Fidelity awarder.
7. Interview a principal or a head teacher. How does he/she maintain discipline and
a safe learning environment?
8. How do health services staffs take care of the students’ physical development?

III. The Teacher

Reflections:

1. Who are the teachers you still remember up to this day? Who was your favorite?
Describe him/her.
Ms. Lara,I thought her name is “Lara.” She was my teacher when I was in
Kinder II. I cannot forget her until now, because she unconsciously taught me to
be brave and cheerful despite the ups-side-downs in life.
When I was in her class, I always cried because I want to go home in Bulacan to
stay with my mom and dad, but my parents decided to let me stayed with my
aunt here in Caloocan because our house is too far for my little body. Ms. Lara
was there, she did not hug me to stop me crying but I heard her kindle words.
She did not punish me whenever I skip in drinking milk, but with her love up to
now I always drink a glass of milk. I cannot read and write neatly but with her
patience I can now read and write in front of many people confidently sharing all
my learning.
Until now, I am still puzzled on what kind of strategy, methodology or magic she
used in me. I just remember her beautiful smile and how caring and loving she is.
I want to hug her everytime I see her. She is not just a plain teacher who taught
me to read and write, she proved that teaching can transform life. She is my best
teacher, she did not teach me algebra or chemistry or any other difficult subject
but she taught me how to be brave, cheerful and independent. And she is one of
the reasons why I took up Education. She is one of my inspirations.

2. What are desirable attributes you were able to observe with your teachers?

Mostly of the teachers that marks a lot has a caring attitude, is loving,
amiable, highly qualified, dynamic, well-behaved, they are inspiring, open minded
and updated.

3. If you are a future teacher which characteristics will you likely exhibit, both
consciously and unconsciously?

Well now I am starting to be friendly, I am getting to very understanding,

fair, caring, loving, punctual, knowledgeable and well informed, updated,
responsible and compassionate. Unconsciously I become cheerful and
energetic when I am teaching, just, open minded and tactful.
