CS Experience

The document summarizes a student's preparation for the USMLE Step 2 CS exam over a one month period from April 22nd to May 21st. They used multiple study resources including First Aid CS, Neeraj Notes, and online videos and notes. Their preparation involved studying for 3-4 hours daily for the first two weeks to familiarize themselves with materials. In the last two weeks, they practiced 10 cases per day on Skype with SPs, timing themselves to complete cases in 13 minutes and patient notes in 8 minutes. On exam day, they found the SPs friendly and were able to complete all but one case on time. They recommend preparing well, smiling at the SPs, enjoying the experience, and wishing

MY CS PREPARATION

April 22nd to May 21st -roughly 1 month

Exam center-Houston
SOURCES I USED
video on CS orientation on usmle website
First Aid CS
Neeraj Notes
dokidok_s-notes-e28093-achieve-more-study-less-for-cs.pdf-this is in group file
and its just what we need for exam
http://www.medical-institution.com/best-usmle-step-2-cs-mnemonics/-this website
really helped a lot
uworld cases- though i practised them-dint help much in exam- FA more than enoug
h
Random videos on physical exam and few old CSE videos to get started
1st two weeks-studied FA for 3-4 hrs as i was preparing for ck simultaneously an
d watched few videos
and went through the above mentioned notes.By end of two weeks i was familiar wi
th the blue sheet nmeumonics and the cases
Last 2 weeks- Practised cases with SPs on skype- covered all cases in FA twice a
nd uworld once-around 10 cases/day
I used to use a timer. Once case was over i would type the patient notes in time
d manner using a keyboard.Initially i would run out
of time and gradually i learnt finishing cases in 13mins and PNs in 8mins. Went
to Baymount inn Houston 4 days before exam and practised
with students preparing there. This helped me fine tune my preparation
Exam day
There is initial registration, then orientation and they brief us about the equi
pments in the exam hall- we can familiarise ourselves with them
They provide coffee/coke etc
Proctors are very helpful and SPs are very friendly too. First case i was bit ne
rvous but after that i was just fine.
I managed to finish all cases except one before time and i used the extra time f
or my PN. That one case i could not do counselling and closure and just
told the patient i have a emergency and came out.Same case i had taken an elabor
ate history but couldnt complete patient notes fully though i wrote the DDs and

investiagations.
After 3 cases they give a break-do carry some snacks for that one break. At end
of 6cases we get lunch break and they serve good food, the next break is at end
of 9cases
and snacks and coffee/drinks are provided and last break you are done with it. T
ime just flies in exam.
Bottom line- Exam is very doable and enjoyable too.Its a entirely different expe
rience
Do prepare well ,smile at the SPs and just be yourself-enjoy the experience and
Good luck to ace the exam!
