In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media product?
Film Genre
Conventions
Ive also learnt a lot about
conventions of film genres
and put my research on to
my blog. This helped me
determine the genre of my
film.
The genre of film that we
chose was Drama. In
general, these opening
sequences tend to use
close-ups so the audience
can see the characters
Conventions of
films
After doing a lot of
research about films
and opening
sequences I can come
to summarise the
conventions of
opening sequences.
There are very basic
common features,
which are involved in
opening sequences.
These include close
ups of the main actor,
opening credits and
sound effects.
Lighting
Sound
In Drama films, the lighting
is usually bright. In beauty
pageants the lighting is
colourful and bright which
creates a casual scene and
a grand, feminine event.
This lighting is used in our
sequence. This makes the
audience establish the
mood and setting of the
scene.
Conventions we have used
After looking at the
conventions of film opening
sequences and genre
conventions, we as a group
decided to use these close
ups and we also used high
and low angle shots to allow
the audience to distinguish
the powerful characters
from the less significant
characters. For instance, we
had an extreme close up of
the main actor crying, as it
adds emotion which gives
the film a dramatic feel.
Conventions of an opening
sequence
The sounds are quite
subtle and emotional
which foreshadows what
the character is feeling.
However, there is also
speaking in our opening
sequence. The sounds
make the audience wait
for more and want more
information.
In an opening sequence, a
setting and the characters are
introduced to the audience. In
the opening sequence to a
Drama film, the setting is casual
however; it focuses on a realistic
character dealing with emotional
themes. This is shown in our
opening sequence as we have
the main character crying in the
