What a busy week it has been. I’m still trying to recover from this crud. Whatever the crud may be. Saturday was a beautiful sunny day, so I sat outside and just let the sun bathe my face in healing heat. It may be my imagination, but that evening I felt much better. That was a good thing because I was speaking at the opening of the Rennie Mann campaign for Senate in 2026. It was an honor and privilege to introduce him. I’ve collaborated with him on the school board for many years, and he is a steadfast patriot. I wish him all the best. Check out his ads in the paper.
School will be out early this Friday and will not resume until the 7th of January. Please make sure your students are up to date with all their work as there will be no make-up time.
Basketball games will continue over the Christmas break. Please check the school site for schedules. Friday morning will be the awards ceremony for elementary and junior high. UIL awards will be handed out at that time as well.
The youth fair was early this year due to the fact the position vacated by McKinley Crownover was not filled. Carol Gibson bravely jumped in to cover the gap. There were still some won-derful entries for the judges to judge, but hopefully there will be many more next year. The decision was made to have it in mid-December again next year, so please teachers, prepare your students. Technology entries will be due in November. Thank you, Carol, and all the super men and women who stepped up to make this another successful event in San Saba County.
I’m sitting at the computer looking out my new windows. Everything is so close I can see the wind blowing the leaves along the ground and off the branches. I should be able to reach out and touch them. Yesterday, I closed my eyes and listened to the wind in the branches as they rattled the leaves, the birds fluttered by my perch, and the sun penetrated my eyelids and colored my imagination.
Nature reminds me how impressive God is. If this is His idea of good, I can’t imagine heaven if He says it’s perfect.
If you are looking for a place to worship this Christmas, most of the local churches will have candlelight services on Christmas Eve. I know there are hunters out there who are away from home. Come into town and join the celebrations. The Angel Tree has been filled, the VFD Santa drive has been filled, and those with a little more to share have fulfilled the dreams of many happy children.
Thank you to all who have contributed to give many a Merry Christmas.
Kid’s Church will not begin until the middle of January. The Men’s breakfast will resume in January. The San Saba Food Pantry will be on Thursday the 19th due to Christmas Day falling on Wednesday. The First Baptist Food Pantry in Richland Springs is still open on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month. If you are in an emergency, call the church, and someone will assist you with food.
I will repeat myself; the holidays are joyful to most, but to a few in mourning, they are painful. Please check on your neighbors and friends, and make sure they know you are available to them. Please pray for our country, for the wars that threaten all of us, our economy, the open border, and all our men and women who are serving the country far from home. Pray for our sick and families who have recently lost a loved one. Our law enforcement officers need special prayer. Most of all pray for our precious troops and their families.
