City proclaims Jan. 8 as David Gaona Day

The city of San Marcos proclaimed the Jan. 8, 2025 as David Gaona Day.

“David Gaona began his electrical career in May 1980 as a General Utility Worker with LCRA, and after 44 years of dedicated service to the San Marcos community and its citizens, David will retire on Jan. 8, 2025,” the proclamation stated. “David progressed in his career, promoting to Lineman, the position he held when he transitioned from LCRA to the city of San Marcos in 1991, Electric Crew Leader in September 1997 and, ultimately, ending his career as Electric Distribution Supervisor for the past five years. David has served on the Board of Directors for The Municipal Electric Safety Exchange for many years, graduated from the Northwest Lineman College, is a member of the Southwest Electric Safety Exchange, the Texas Lineman’s Rodeo Association and the American Public Power Association. He has advanced his knowledge by completing Breaker School, Hotline School, Grounding, Underground, Transformer, Bucket Rescue and Pole Top Rescue Certifications. He has served as a judge for the TLRA and APPA Rodeos and a Safety Coach for 18 years.”

The proclamation stated that Gaona has left a lasting impression on the city of San Marcos by installing numerous overhead poles, transformers, many feet of primary lines, underground primary lines and working to restore power after many major storms. He has been recognized by internal and external customers for his outstanding work and received the prestigious Moten Award.

“David always pays special attention to safety and protecting the public [and] is very safety conscious, always using good judgement when he encounters a problem. He has a positive work attitude and is a great teacher and mentor for employees. He has also been described as someone who expects ethical behavior, solicits input from his staff, ensures they are engaged and recognizes their contributions. David always leads by example,” the proclamation stated. “David will retire on Jan. 8, 2025, to enjoy spending time with Norma, his wife of 43 years who has been there through the many storms and late hours of working through the night. They plan to travel the world together and spend time with their 3 daughters, Danielle and spouse Juan, ElysaBeth and spouse Alfonso and youngest daughter Jessica, their 5 grandchildren and maybe doing some fishing.”

The city of San Marcos called upon its residents to show their appreciation to David Gaona for his service and dedication to the residents of our community.
