FAQsFrequently asked questions
Sateen cotton is woven with long-staple cotton yarn using a one-yarn-over, three-yarn-under weave structure. This technique creates a silky-soft feel known for its luster and drape.
Our 300 thread count sateen sheets were designed to balance softness and breathability.
Absolutely! Natural fibers are typically more breathable than synthetic fibers like polyester.
The 100% natural long staple cotton we use for our sheets are 200 thread count for the percale and 300 thread count for the sateen, making it the perfect balance of soft and breathable.
According to the National Sleep Foundation, the sweet spot for thread count in cotton sheets is between 200 and 400. If you tend to sleep hot, a higher thread count may not be a great choice as it tends to trap body heat. Sticking to that sweet spot for thread count is a good way to ensure your cotton sheets won't feel too warm.
Microfiber sheets are made out of polyester fabric, giving them a soft, stretchy feel. They're more affordable than natural cotton sheets but the drawback is that they're not as breathable as cotton or other natural fibers. They're also not as environmentally friendly to produce because they're made from synthetic fibers.
Percale cotton has a crisp feel with a luxe matte finish while sateen cotton has a silky-soft feel with a subtle luster.
This type of pillow is filled with memory foam (also known as viscoelastic foam), a type of high-density polyurethane that softens in response to body heat and pressure. This allows the pillow to contour to your head and neck and spring back into shape when it cools down.
Our uniquely constructed memory foam pillow is designed to contour to the head and neck for optimal comfort and support in all sleep positions, and its thicker height is particularly great for side sleepers.
Yes! All of our pillows use hypoallergenic materials.
Our memory foam and natural latex foam pillows help inhibit the growth of dust mites and other contaminants, making them a great choice if you suffer from indoor allergies. Our down alternative pillows use two types of hypoallergenic down alternative fibers which are better for allergy sufferers than traditional down fill.
All of our pillows are encased in covers made with naturally moisture-wicking organic cotton.
Simply unzip and remove the knit cotton cover from the pillow and machine wash cold in the delicate cycle. Tumble dry low or hang to dry. We recommend spot cleaning the surface of the inner pillow as needed.
The Saatva Memory Foam Pillow’s three layers work together for cooler sleep: The soft, breathable organic cotton cover is quilted with phase-change material that stays cool to the touch; the memory foam layer features advanced graphite technology that draws heat away, and the proprietary blend of gel-infused memory foams ensures maximum airflow and absorbs heat.
Not all memory foams are created equally. We only use CertiPUR-US® certified memory foams to ensure that your mattresses and pillows are free of harmful chemicals, are low in VOCs (volatile organic compounds), and won't off-gas (emit an unpleasant chemical odor) in your home.
Yes! Because memory foam pillows offer such excellent head and neck support, they're a great choice for a variety of sleep positions
A high-quality memory foam pillow should last you three years or more with normal use.
Memory foams respond to body heat and pressure by softening to contour to your body and spring back into shape as the foams cool down. However, just like any cushioning that bears your body weight, it's normal to expect some body impressions after you lie on your memory foam pillow night after night, but it shouldn't flatten out with normal use.
It's a good idea to replace your memory foam pillows every three years or so to make sure your pillow is always supportive and hygienic.
No. In fact, because of its ability to mold to your body, it offers excellent pain and pressure relief for your neck and shoulders.
Latex pillows have a fill and/or core made up of latex rather than memory foam. Natural latex, like the kind we use in our Saatva Latex Pillow, is more generally more durable and breathable than memory foam.
Saatva pillows are available in Queen and King sizes.
Below are the dimensions of our pillows:
Saatva Latex Pillows and Organic Quilted Pillows
Queen 28" x 18"
King 34" x 18"
Graphite Memory Foam Pillows, Cloud Memory Foam Pillows & Down Alternative Pillows
Queen 28" x 16"
King 34" x 16"
Please note that our pillows are slightly larger than standard queen and king sizes. We recommend using our Saatva pillowcases with your Saatva pillow.
Each Saatva pillow is designed to provide comfortable and optimal head and neck support. When finding the right pillow for you, pillow thickness/height (also known as “loft height”) is an important factor to consider.
These are the loft heights of our Saatva pillows:
• Saatva Latex Pillow - Standard Loft 4-5'' or High Loft 6-7''
• Down Alternative Pillow - 7''
• Graphite Memory Foam Pillow - 6.5''
• Cloud Memory Foam Pillow - 6''
• Organic Quilted Pillow - 7"
And below are our general recommendations for pillow height/thickness for each sleep position:
• Stomach sleepers: low- loft pillow 3” to 4” thick
• Back sleepers: medium-loft pillow around 5” thick.
• Side sleepers: high-loft pillow around 6” to 7”
• Combination sleepers: medium-loft pillow around 5” thick.
Thread count is the number of horizontal (warp) and vertical (weft) threads in one square inch of cotton fabric. The higher the thread count, the warmer the fabric becomes.
Note that thread count is only relevant to cotton sheets. It's also only one indicator of good quality. Cotton sheet thread count can vary from the 100s to 1,000 or higher. The problem is you can only get so many threads into a loom. Some bedding manufacturers might sacrifice thread quality to increase the thread count.
We chose a thread count of 300 for our sateen cotton, 200 for our percale cotton, and 180 for our percale cotton-viscose blend to achieve the perfect balance of breathability, softness, and durability. We only use long-staple cotton, made from longer cotton fibers, for a stronger, smoother, more durable fabric.

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) stipulates requirements throughout the supply chain for both ecological and labor conditions in textile and apparel manufacturing using organically produced raw materials. Organic production is based on a system of farming that maintains and replenishes soil fertility without the use of toxic, persistent pesticides or synthetic fertilizers.
In addition, it includes welfare standards for animal husbandry and prohibits genetically modified organisms. Organic label grades must be made no less than 95% of the fiber content of the products.
