Icelandic artist Emiliana Torrini has released her new album, Miss Flower. We asked her the BIG questions . . .

The album was inspired by discovery made by Emiliana and her friends, Zoe Flower and her husband Simon Byrt, following the death of Zoe's mother, Geraldine Flower.

They found a case of treasured letters, telexes and photographs belonging to Geraldine, revealing a life full of secrets and lifelong friendships, tales of travel, adventure, and love.

The project has now become a film entitled The Extraordinary Miss Flower, starring Emilíana, Caroline Catz; Richard Ayoade, and Nick Cave and made by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, the filmmaking duo behind BAFTA-nominated Nick Cave film 20,000 Days on Earth.

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I love old cars; my first car was my great grandfather’s - a Sunbeam Rapier '62 model. It was indestructible which was handy as the brakes were always failing. I am a huge pickle fan. I love sea swimming in Iceland in the summer through the winter. It is like nothing else and your body feels brand new every time.

How would you describe your music?

Quite eclectic I have always listened to music of all genres, and I am all sorts of persons so that seeps into the music.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Minnie Ripperton, Melanie Safka, Beth Gibbons, Dinah Washington, and many more were my greatest singing teachers.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

I was 11 years old, living in Germany and my support teachers invited me to Bon Jovi. I realised you got money back for returning your drinking glass, so I spent the whole night collecting towers of glasses and made lots of money and bought a Michael Jackson lookalike a drink thinking he was real. He was wearing the whole leather outfit with the one glove.

What was the first record you ever bought?

It was a Faith No More album on vinyl. I was 13 years old or so going through a rock and thrash metal period. I did not have a record player so it is still unopened in my record shelf.

What’s your favourite song right now?

Spaghetti by Pale Moon. It is my personal summer hit.

Favourite lyric of all time?

Mercy Seat by Nick Cave. When I heard it for the first time, I was so invested in the story that the U-turn in the end blew my brain to Timbuktu.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Le Fleur by Minnie Ripperton of the album Come to My Garden, which is a beautiful record. She gives me the joy.

Where can people find your music/more information?

My website. Instagram or Facebook. Thank you!
