California-born, Clare-based singer Cinder Well aka Amelia Baker has released her new single, Two Heads, Grey Mare, ahead of her new album, Cadence, this April. We asked her the BIG questions . . .

Featuring Cormac MacDiarmada of Lankum, Two Heads, Grey Mare is inspired by folklore stories of the Irish selkie, and the video was filmed in England's Peak District.

"So much of my music has been made far from home," Baker says. "There was something about recording in California that felt cathartic."

Cinder Well plays Cleere’s, Kilkenny on 18 May, The Cobblestone, Dublin on 19 and 20 May, Coughlan’s, Cork on 26 May, Phil Grimes, Waterford on 27 May.

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I'm from California, and I love the sea, and sleeping.

How would you describe your music?

It's a little bit like nostalgia - a happy memory that makes you cry.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Joni Mitchell for her lyricism, Neil Young for his timeless vibe, Lankum for their commitment to the drone, and Tommy Peoples for his ability to twist and turn a melody.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Probably Raffi. He really hit the market with the children of hippy-ish parents.

What was the first record you ever bought?

No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom.

What’s your favourite song right now?

The Deepest Breath by Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin.

Favourite lyric of all time?

It’s hard to choose one, but this classic line from Joni Mitchell's Blue always strikes me: "Blue, Songs are like tattoos, You know I've been to sea before, Crown and anchor me, Or let me sail away."

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Caribbean Blue by Enya.
