MANSFIELD: “And He walks with me and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own. And the joy we share as we tarry there none other has ever known.” Lyrics from one of her favorite hymns, Marilyn Markley praised Her Lord countless times with this song. His faithful servant, she is now worshiping in His presence.
Marilyn Marie Markley has fought the good fight and kept her faith. Her race is now finished after passing into the arms of her Savior on Thursday morning, October 31, 2024. She was 98.
The daughter of Ralph and Glada (Kaiser) Peat, Marilyn was born March 16, 1926 in Mansfield and graduated from Mansfield Senior High School.
Just two years later she married Howard Markley on August 18, 1946. The two shared 60 years of marriage before his passing on January 5, 2007.
Marilyn was a dedicated wife and mother. Family was always her focus and she not only adored her children but her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well. She loved playing games. She had been a member of multiple bridge clubs, played cards and enjoyed solving puzzles. A talented seamstress, Marilyn sewed dresses and outfits for her daughters.
She had a strong love of animals. Marilyn was tender hearted, and had raised peacocks, and shared a special bond with her maltese Buttons and cat Touby
Marilyn took extensive vacations. Her most memorable were Caribbean cruises and a special European trip.
She was a faithful member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church where she served in the women’s group. Recently she was a member of Oakland Lutheran Church in Mansfield. She had stayed active in attending the water aerobics class at the Friendly House.
More than anything, she will be remembered for her constant and devoted love of her family.
She is survived by her daughter Kathy (John) Carter of Mansfield, Carol Disch of Xenia, and Keith (Debbie) Markley of Mansfield; grandchildren Heather (Daryn) Ford, Ryan (Kelly) Markley, and Adam (Courtney) Markley; step-grandchildren Warren (Renee), Jim (Vickie), and Matt (Tina) Disch; great-grandchildren Breanna, Jacob, Trenton, Austin, and Caroline; step-great-grandchildren Sierra, Brooklyn, Alexa, Michael, Emma, Olivia, and Nick; special niece Diana, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law Warren Disch, sister and brother-in-law Doris and Ed West.
Marilyn’s funeral will be Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 11 am in Oakland Lutheran Church, 575 Crall Road East, Mansfield, Ohio 44905 where visitation will be held at the church from 10 am – 11 am. Pastor Paul Lintern will officiate and burial will follow in Lantz Cemetery.
