A senior official of the Hamas resistance group has called for "the largest popular uprising" aimed at lifting the inhumane siege imposed by the Palestinian Authority (PA) on the Jenin refugee camp, north of the occupied West Bank.

Abdul Rahman Shadid made the request on Monday, as the PA "security forces" have over the past few weeks closed entrances to the Jenin camp, home to some 25,000 people, and clashed with resistance fighters there.

He held Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas responsible for the "blood shed in Jenin or any other governorate as a result of the military campaign launched by the [Palestinian] Authority."

The PA officials, Shadid added, refuse to respond to the various national calls and initiatives that demand an end to the blockade on the Jenin camp and the military campaign against the resistance in the West Bank,

Since early this month, the PA security personnel and armored vehicles have been patrolling the Jenin camp.

They have arrested a number of Palestinians affiliated with resistance groups, particularly the Jenin Brigades, sparking deadly clashes.

Resistance factions say the Palestinian Authority and its security forces are actually doing the Tel Aviv regime’s bidding amid reports that the Jenin military campaign is being carried out under Israeli military oversight.

Last week, Hamas denounced the PA's campaign as a "fully-fledged crime," saying the weapons used against people in Jenin would have been better placed in the hands of resistance fighters to confront the Israeli occupiers.

In a statement, it called for "popular mobilization to break the siege and protect resistance fighters, as well as to confront this security operation, which only serves the occupation army."
