Exciting news from Harry Potter HQ today &ndash; where we learnt more details about the upcoming HBO Original Series, commencing production in summer, 2025, slated to launch on Max. Expect characters not seen in the original films and different locations to be involved &ndash; and also, discover just how many people auditioned to be Harry, Ron and Hermione! But despite the new additions, the show will be coming back to its roots where the original films were made, returning to Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.

With the series now officially underway, we heard from director Mark and showrunner Francesca, who revealed their own love of the stories ('I am a mega-fan like crazy!' Francesca confessed) alongside the creative vision they want to bring to this retelling of the Harry Potter stories.

&lsquo;We have 8 hours to tell the first book&rsquo;, the pair revealed, &lsquo;so we can dig into the real depths and crevices and how the language of magic can evolve.&rsquo;  

&lsquo;We follow the ethos of the films to source some of the finest cream of British talent,&rsquo; Mark added.

&lsquo;We&rsquo;re obsessed, basically!&rsquo; they joked.  

We also learnt that over 30,000 (!) people auditioned for the roles of Harry, Ron and Hermione during the [open casting call](https://www.harrypotter.com/news/open-casting-call-for-harry-ron-and-hermione-in-uk-and-ireland) earlier this year, and although the golden trio have yet to be cast, Mark admitted they watched &lsquo;every single audition&rsquo; and there&rsquo;s &lsquo;a couple of crackers.&rsquo;  

The new Harry Potter series will be a fresh adaptation of the books, going deeper into Harry&rsquo;s story and featuring a brand-new cast for both old fans & new to get to know. We were also teased characters that are set to appear in the show that we did not visit in the films &ndash; such as the mischievous [poltergeist Peeves!](https://www.harrypotter.com/fact-file/characters-and-pets/peeves)

'We&rsquo;ll get to have some fun with Peeves in the corridors!' the duo divulged.

Iconic locations will return, of course, (&lsquo;we don&rsquo;t want to mess with the likes of the Great Hall, but other elements of Hogwarts we will expand&rsquo;) but Mark was also excited to explore other places not seen before, such as the Hogwarts staffroom, and examining the changing aesthetics of the school.

&lsquo;We went with the idea that Hogwarts is a real place,&rsquo; he explained, hoping to explore the architectural themes of the ancient castle and how they would evolve over time.

'So there will be elements of Georgian architecture, attempts at naturalism. Because, of course, we have the luxury of long-form storytelling.'

'We&rsquo;re both massively fond of the movies, they&rsquo;re amazing, what an amazing feat of creative pursuits,' Francesca said. 'We get a bigger sandpit to play in.&rsquo; 

Mark and Francesca were also keen to stay canonically accurate to the ages of certain characters, citing that Snape would've only been 31 in 1991, where the events of *Philosopher's Stone* take place. 

&lsquo;No one can replace Alan Rickman, but we can find the next generation,&rsquo; the pair added.

As we revealed earlier this year, the show is executive produced by J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Bront&euml; Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films &ndash; while Francesca Gardiner (showrunner) also serves as executive producer alongside director Mark Mylod.

Yes! Our pastry chefs will be whisking, chopping, rolling and sprinkling their way through a series of spellbinding challenges at the most magical place of all: [Warner Bros. And at the end, their grand trophy will be presented to them in the Great Hall set - just as if it were the House Cup! 

## The Phelps twins are your esteemed hosts

They've conquered Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, and now, the Phelps twins are entering the messy world of baking (well, the Weasley twins did perfect a Canary Cream once upon a time...) and they're not alone. Judges Carla Hall and Jozel Youssef will be on hand to offer culinary tips to the competing bakers.

## Expect guests from the Harry Potter films

If it wasn't enough having to create show-stopping works of baked art, the bakers will also be greeted with some special visitors throughout the show! From Bonnie Wright to Warwick Davis to Evanna Lynch, will our celebrity guests inspire the contestants... or create a distraction?

## The bakers will come in pairs

Baking can be a stressful experience as many of you will know. But thankfully, for these professionals, they will be buddied up. 

Each team will come in pairs to create their confectionary creations. Teams competing are: Kimberly Adams (Milwaukee, MI) and Ashley Cardona (Charleston, SC), Lisa Altfest (Orange County, CA) and Mitzi Reyes (Los Angeles, CA), Hemu Basumatary (Katy, TX) and Riccardo Menicucci (Los Angeles, CA), Zoe Burmester (Brooklyn, NY) and Jordan Pilarski (Ojai, CA), Jess Lewis (Washington, DC) and Jamie Louks (Seattle, WA), Kayla Giddings(Lafayette, LA) and Yohann Le Bescond (Ocala, FL), Juan Gutierrez (Chicago, IL) and Elizabeth Rowe (Dallas, TX), Michael Russ II (Modesto, CA) and Conner Strackman (Smithville, TX), and Christopher Teixeira (Chicago, IL) and Miko Uy (Astoria, NY).

## The showstoppers will be themed around characters, settings and magical moments from the Harry Potter series

In the clip above, we spotted a breathtaking [Patronus](https://www.harrypotter.com/features/what-is-a-patronus) piece, a Fawkes the Phoenix showstopper and a homage to the Whomping Willow (we wish we could be *chomping* that Willow!) complete with a moving spider! What other wizardry will our bakers conjure up?

## The prize will be a Wizards of Baking Cup!

Alongside an inclusion in the new Harry Potter cookbook. And in the words of Dumbledore, probably a bit of 'eternal glory' too. But who will it be - and what will be our favourite bewitching bake?! We are hungry for more already.

In the Harry Potter films, a lot of clever filmmaking trickery is going on behind-the-scenes to achieve some of those magical special effects. And next year, visitors to  [Warner Bros. ## Reminisce about the Weasley twins&rsquo; great escape

Who could forget the triumphant scene where [Fred and George Weasley](https://www.harrypotter.com/collections/fred-and-george-weasley) cause unbridled chaos in the Great Hall in the wake of [Professor Umbridge&rsquo;s](https://www.harrypotter.com/fact-file/characters-and-pets/dolores-umbridge) tyrannic reign over Hogwarts?

When entering the Studio Tour&rsquo;s Great Hall, look up to discover Fred and George suspended from  the ceiling, paying homage to this iconic moment. You&rsquo;ll also see the swinging pendulum from the exam sequence before the chaos begins.

Whizz through more of the twins&rsquo; tomfoolery by enjoying some of their Weasley&rsquo;s Wizard Wheezes products out on display in Diagon Alley - or check out their matching costumes from when they started the business.

## Discover the secrets of the Dursley's floating cake and other magical objects

Oh, the mayhem Dobby causes with his levitating cake! But how did the filmmakers achieve such a difficult special effect in the first place? Fans will be able to find out upon their visit - while gathering up other filmmaking secrets along the way. 

Aspiring wizards can even try their hand at making an origami [Howler](https://www.harrypotter.com/fact-file/objects/howler), just like the one delivered to Ron by Mrs Weasley in *Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.*

## Pay homage to the Marauders  

The Marauders claimed to be the original mischief-makers of Hogwarts, so this Magical Mischief display wouldn&rsquo;t be complete without a nod to the best in the business. To celebrate this artful quartet, the costumes of Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black and James Potter will be on display.

## Look for Cornish Pixies 

Use your activity passport to look out for Cornish Pixies &ndash; not the scariest of the magical creatures, but certainly a magical nuisance. They will be dotted around the Studio Tour for you to find!

But before we meet those vying for victory, a little context about this exciting new baking programme from Food Network. Set at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London &ndash; the Making of Harry Potter, tune in as nine teams battle it out to create magical masterpieces and showstopping bakes, all inspired by Harry Potter. So, who are the bakers?

### Elizabeth and Juan
Elizabeth is no slouch when it comes to baking competitions and is also a huge Harry Potter fan. In fact, she had thought about retiring from competitions, but her love of Harry Potter drew her back to Wizards of Baking. When it comes to her personality, she thinks of herself as rather Molly Weasley-esque. She&rsquo;s ferocious, protective but has a sweet side! 

Juan is an executive pastry chef and chocolatier but most importantly (in our opinion) a Harry Potter fan. He always thought he was a Gryffindor, but it turns out he is actually a Hufflepuff! Though that came as a surprise, he&rsquo;s very happy about it &ndash; as it speaks to who he is as a person.

### Jessica and Jamie
Jamie is a pastry chef and cake designer. Fun fact! Jamie is known for her lifelike skulls and anatomical heart cakes &ndash; we&rsquo;re both impressed and a little scared. She discovered her love of Harry Potter once the films came out and thinks it would be cool to recreate the moving staircase as a dessert.

Jessica is an award-winning pastry chef. She had thought she was a Hufflepuff but found herself sorted into Gryffindor. However, her Gryffindor vibe makes sense to us &ndash; especially as she thinks of herself as a bit of a Ron Weasley. She&rsquo;s not too serious and loves a good laugh.

### Miko and Chris
Miko is a cake artist who discovered his love of Harry Potter through the films. He still watches them to destress when life gets a little tough. His Harry Potter hot-take is that he thinks Snape is an unsung hero &ndash; Miko is a Slytherin though so that might explain his love for the slippery Snape.

The other member of this team, and fellow Slytherin, is Chris. An executive pastry chef, he is all about attention to detail. If he had the chance to recreate any Harry Potter location as a dessert, it would be the Forbidden Forest because of its mysterious ambience.

### Yohann and Kayla
Next up we have Kayla, a cake designer known for her colourful creations.  Having always loved magic (and with a feeling that it could still be real), Kayla was drawn to Harry Potter when the films were released. She particularly likes the Great Hall because that is where all the excellent food is &ndash; a very smart choice. 

Kayla&rsquo;s team member, Yohann, is an executive pastry chef and a Gryffindor. He feels like this house suits him because they do what is right and he relates to that. Plus, they&rsquo;re winners and he&rsquo;s in this competition to win it! Yohann&rsquo;s favourite character is Dumbledore because of how much knowledge he has and in Yohann&rsquo;s words, knowledge is power.

### Conner and Michael
Now we come to the youngest contestant in the competition, Conner. At 18 years old he is already a pastry chef. He also says that he embraces his identify as 100% a Gryffindor. Conner has big ambitions, he would love to create Hogwarts as a dessert&hellip;if he had unlimited time and chocolate that is. 

Michael is a professionally trained cake designer and a proud Harry Potter superfan! He has loved the books since his grandma bought them for him as a kid and has read them multiple times. He&rsquo;s also a big fan of the movies and can quote them word for word &ndash; impressive! Michael&rsquo;s two favourite characters are Dumbledore and&hellip; Voldemort. To him they represent the balance of good and evil.

### Lisa and Mitzi
Lisa is known for her large cakes and what she describes as her &lsquo;Hagrid-sized&rsquo; love of Harry Potter. Now that&rsquo;s what we call a fan. She is also, in her own words, the &lsquo;huffliest puffliest&rsquo; Hufflepuff. If she could create any Harry Potter location as a dessert it would be Hagrid&rsquo;s Hut &ndash; complete with dragon egg. Does someone have a soft spot for this half-giant?

The other half of this duo is Mitzi, an executive pastry chef who loves molecular gastronomy (we wager she would be a fan of Potions class). Despite being a Gryffindor, Mitzi identifies with Luna Lovegood and all her eccentricates as she sees those qualities reflected in herself.

### Hemu and Riccardo
Riccardo is an executive pastry chef whose love of Harry Potter started in high school when he was introduced to the wizarding world by watching *Goblet of Fire*! He enjoyed it so much he went back and watched the series from the start. Although he is a Gryffindor, Riccardo also thinks he is like Harry Potter and could easily have been a Slytherin.

Riccardo&rsquo;s fellow Gryffindor and team member is Hemu, a cake artist known for her hyper-realistic cakes. Hemu&rsquo;s favourite character is Dobby. His cuteness does factor into this decision but the way he gives his life for his friends resonates with Hemu who also feels she would do anything for those she loved.

### Jordan and Zoe
Before she became a self-taught cake artist, Zoe worked in film and TV. In fact, this is how she discovered her love of Harry Potter when she got the opportunity to visit the set of *Philosopher&rsquo;s Stone*. Very exciting! She then read the stories to her children, so Harry Potter has been in her life for a long time. She also happens to be a Hufflepuff.

Like his fellow teammate, executive pastry chef Jordan is a Hufflepuff. This came as a bit of a surprise to him as he initially thought he was a Gryffindor. Though, as he describes himself as loyal, diligent and dedicated to his profession, we can see exactly why he was sorted into this house. Plus, Jordan thinks he is like Cedric Diggory, humble and smart in his own way &ndash; a true Hufflepuff.

### Kimberly and Ashley
Kimberly has been baking for 16 years, but only recently went to culinary school to make her dazzling wedding cakes even better. She has watched the films at least three times and has decided that twinkly-eyed Dumbledore is her favourite character. She loves the professor because he is wise and helps people &ndash; like Kimberly does in her day-to-day life. 

Ashley is a French-trained pastry chef known for her gingerbread mansions. She also happens to be a Ravenclaw and thinks she was sorted into this house because she uses both the left and right side of her brain. Essentially, not only does she have a real passion for knowledge, but she happens to be creative and independent too.

The Dark Arts have taken over Warner Bros. Studio Tour London! Over the last few weeks, fans who visit the Studio Tour have been stepping into the underbelly of the wizarding world. This celebration of all things Dark has culminated in the eerie and exciting Hallowe&rsquo;en event, Nox. Over the course of two nights, this special after-hours experience for Harry Potter fans had plenty of treats&hellip; and a fair few tricks along the way.

We thought it would be fun to rank seven of our favourite unnerving moments. Fair warning &ndash; this list contains a *lot* of [Death Eaters](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/death-eaters). What can we say? They&rsquo;re just that scary. 

## 7. Trick or Treat
Kicking off our list is the trick or treat stations placed throughout the Studio Tour. It just wouldn&rsquo;t be Hallowe&rsquo;en without this iconic tradition. There were so many delicious goodies to collect! Why is this number seven on our list then? Well, while it is a real perk, this falls firmly in the &lsquo;treat&rsquo; part of Hallowe&rsquo;en rather than &lsquo;trick&rsquo; making it less spooky and more yummy.

## 6. Floating pumpkins
Next, we have the floating pumpkins in the [Great Hall](/fact-file/locations/the-great-hall). Walking through those famous doors you&rsquo;re immediately hit with Halloween vibes &ndash; from the eerie lighting to the house tables bedecked with a spook-tacular feast. The highlight? Floating pumpkins as far as the eye can see &ndash; there has to be at least a hundred! One look at their grinning faces and you know you&rsquo;re in for a gourd time.

## 5. Death Eater wand combat
At number five we have the Death Eaters doing their wand combat. At various points throughout the evening, they would get into formation and progress through the tour. At Platform 9 &frac34; , they put on a show of strength and pyrotechnics, cursing the crowd with their wands. But their biggest show of strength had to be on the Hogwarts Bridge. These were Death Eaters on a mission &ndash; cross them at your peril! The only reason that this is lower down on the list, is that we could keep a safe distance away from the [Dark Lord&rsquo;s](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/lord-voldemort) followers. If they were any closer, we might have keeled over with fright.

## 4. Goodbye Ollivanders 
Going to [Ollivanders](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/garrick-ollivander) is a rite of passage for every young witch and wizard. Imagine if it was destroyed? Imagine no more &ndash; we got to see exactly what that would look like. There were flames. There was smoke. There were Death Eaters. And there we were unable to tear our eyes away from a terrible yet oddly magnificent scene &ndash; perfect for Hallowe&rsquo;en.

## 3. Not Hagrid&rsquo;s hut! 
The dastardly Death Eaters marched through the Studio Tour in that gracefully evil way, showing off their wand combat round the [Vanishing Cabinet](/fact-file/objects/vanishing-cabinet) before sending Hagrid&rsquo;s hut ablaze in a shower of light, smoke and sound. Bone chilling but fun, and definitely one of the most haunting moments of the night.

## 2. Walking through the Forbidden Forest
The [Forbidden Forest](/fact-file/locations/the-forbidden-forest) is creepy enough on its own. The Forbidden Forest at night with fog everywhere and only a lantern to guide your way? Now that&rsquo;s scary. As we were guided through the Forest we got the sense that we were bring watched, whether by [Buckbeak](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/buckbeak) or the not-so-friendly [Acromantula](/fact-file/creatures/acromantula) we just didn&rsquo;t know. The fog was that thick, the forest that eerie, it just had to be near the top of our list.

## 1. Death Eaters round ever corner
The time has come to reveal the spookiest moment of the night and that was&hellip; the Death Eaters. They were *everywhere*. We were constantly checking over our shoulder as they would appear out of the blue and we would jump out of our skin. Everything about them was terrifying &ndash; from their costumes to their intricate masks and their penchant for staring into your soul whilst pointing their wand at you. They never spoke&hellip; and that just added to their eerie presence. So, Death Eaters of the Studio Tour, you take the top spot &ndash; perfectly horrifying.
