Loni Jean (Langbehn) Shoup died on September 26, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Loni remained positive and strong through it all, accomplishing many of her bucket list items along the way.

Loni was born in Huron, SD on August 1, 1947 to Elmer and Ellamaye Langbehn. On September 5, 1952, her brother, David was welcomed to the family. Loni and Dave were typical sister and brother when young, but as they got older, they became very close. Loni enjoyed traveling with her brother and sister-in-law, Connie. She loved going to their house in Washington and visiting their family, often going to pick fresh huckleberries, cherries, apples, etc.

Loni was raised in Gettysburg, SD. There she started dating the love of her life, Ben (Buzz) Shoup JR, during her sophomore year in high school. On December 18, 1965, they became husband and wife. From this union came 4 children, Matthew, Melodee, Melinda, and Michael.

Loni loved her family and enjoyed all the honorary sons, daughters, and grandkids she accumulated along the way. She stayed busy keeping up with her kids and grandkids’ activities, baking, sewing, or whatever else was needed to make them successful. She loved holidays, especially Christmas, making each one special with her wonderful cooking and family get-togethers. She loved to decorate and had many totes of decorations to prove it. She also loved spending family time camping, hunting, and being on the river.

Loni babysat for many years before going back to school to become an LPN. She loved being a nurse and spent most of her nursing career working for Dr. Philip Hoffsten at Medical Associates Clinic in Pierre.

Loni had many special friends and family members whom she enjoyed making Christmas candies, quilting, or crafting with. She also relished her coffee times and happy hour get-togethers with her group of retired clinic buddies.

Loni is survived by her daughter, Melodee Shoup, and children Abbee (Ben) Draine, Ranni Hopkins, and Stefan Hopkins; son, Michael (Ann) Shoup, and children Nathan and Seth Shoup; great-grand baby due in March; brother, David (Connie) Langbehn; brothers in law, Jim Shoup and Arlo Wagner; sisters in law, Cindy (Ralph) Thoene and Marjorie Zebroski: Aunt Bev Merrill and Korie Langbehn; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
