PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Two adult staffers were wounded Tuesday in a stabbing at a northeast Philadelphia middle school, police and the school’s principal said.
Officers were called shortly after noon to a report of a person with a weapon at Castor Garden Middle School and found a 63-year-old woman was stabbed in her left side and a 31-year-old woman in the right arm, police said. The first woman was taken to a hospital, where her condition wasn’t immediately available; the second refused medical treatment.
Police said an arrest was made and a weapon was recovered. No information was immediately released about the suspect or the circumstances of the stabbing.
Principal Shawn McGuigan said in a message to families that the victims were staffers at the school, reported WPVI-TV, who said the suspect was a student.
McGuigan said the school was placed on lockdown and all students were safe.
