カプコンは12日、新作ゲーム『鬼武者 Way of the Sword』を2026年に全世界に向けて発売することを発表した。あわせて映像が公開された。 2001年に第1作目が登場した本シリーズは、戦国時代を舞台に、超人的な「鬼の力」を得た若武者である「鬼武者」と世界征服を目論む怪物「幻魔(げんま)」たちとの戦いを描いたシリーズ作品。カウンターアクションシステム「一閃(いっせん)」を始めとした爽快感のある「バッサリ感!」は、本シリーズを語る上では外せない要素となっている。 さらに、実在の人物・事件を基にしたリアリティを持ちながらも、どこか妖しげで不気味なダークファンタジー的な演出、キャラクターたちに課された因果や宿命に翻弄される重厚なストーリーで人気を博した。 Netflix社によるオリジナルアニメーションの展開など多彩な展開を重ね、累計販売本数870万本を超える人気シリーズになっている。 そんな「鬼武者」シリーズの完全新作である『鬼武者 Way of the Sword』は、血で血を洗う至高の剣戟アクションゲーム。その舞台は、瘴気によって不可思議な姿と化した江戸時代初期の「京都」。 妖しさに満ちたステージの数々。敵はこの世のものならざる怪奇な異形「幻魔」。そこに生きる人々が紡ぐダークファンタジー。京都を駆けずり回り、はびこる幻魔を斬りまくるのは「鬼の篭手」を身につけた一人の侍。壮絶な剣戟の中で血にまみれながら、戦う理由を問う。己の進む道は、いったいどこに行きつくのか…。
