Police found a man dead after responding to a report of a purse-snatching and shots fired in Northeast Portland’s Hazelwood neighborhood on Monday, the Portland Police Bureau said.

Officers arrived in the 1100 block of Northeast 102nd Avenue at 3:50 p.m. and discovered the victim in a Fred Meyer store parking lot, police said. The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead.

Police believe the robber or robbers may have fired shots when running away. It’s not known if the victim they found had anything to do with the alleged robbery and resulting gunfire.

The victim’s name hasn’t been released, and police offered few details.
