Oracle Maximum Availability Architecture features

Oracle Real Application Clusters

Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) allow customers to run a single Oracle Database across multiple servers to maximize availability and enable horizontal scalability while accessing shared storage. User sessions connecting to Oracle RAC instances can fail over and safely replay changes during outages without any changes to end user applications, hiding the impact of the outages.

Oracle Active Data Guard

Oracle Active Data Guard expands the capabilities of Oracle Data Guard to provide advanced data protection, disaster recovery, and scalability benefits. Use Oracle Active Data Guard to survive disasters and data corruption while creating, maintaining, and managing one or more synchronized standby databases.

Oracle Application Continuity

Application Continuity (AC) is a feature available with Oracle RAC, Oracle RAC One Node, and Oracle Active Data Guard options that mask outages from end users and applications by recovering the in-flight work for impacted database sessions following outages.

Oracle Globally Distributed Database

Oracle Globally Distributed Database disperses segments of a data set across many databases (shards) onto different computers—on-premises or in the cloud. It enables globally distributed, linearly scalable, multimodel databases. It requires no specialized hardware or software. Oracle Globally Distributed Database does all this while delivering strong consistency, the full power of SQL, and support for the structured and unstructured data of Oracle Database. It meets data sovereignty requirements and supports applications that require low latency and high availability.

Live Labs

Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN)

Oracle RMAN is an Oracle Database client that performs backup and recovery tasks on Oracle Databases and automates administration of backup strategies. Oracle RMAN simplifies backing up, restoring, and recovering database files.

Oracle Database Flashback Technologies

Oracle Database Flashback Technologies is a set of data recovery solutions that reverse human errors by selectively and efficiently undoing the effects of a mistake. Oracle Database Flashback supports recovery at all levels, including the row, transaction, table, and the entire database.

Edition-Based Redefinition

Edition-based redefinition (EBR) enables online application upgrades with uninterrupted application availability. Both the current application and upgraded application can run simultaneously, allowing users to be phased over to the new version of the application without interrupting business continuity.

Oracle GoldenGate

When combined with other Oracle MAA technology, Oracle GoldenGate eliminates downtime during routine database maintenance and upgrades, operating system patches, application upgrades, and platform migrations. All operations are protected with failback capabilities, eliminating the risk of losing data. Oracle GoldenGate can be deployed in either multi-master or active-active configurations to achieve database scalability or distributed synchronization.
