Thompson resigns from Donora council
A Donora councilman has resigned from his elected position.
The resignation of Tom Thompson, who was also serving as vice president, was accepted Thursday by council in a 5 to 1 vote. Casey Perrotta cast the lone no vote. Thompson was not in attendance at the meeting.
When contacted Friday, Thompson declined to comment, other than to say “differences of opinion.” He served on council for about three years.
Council President Cindy Brice was not happy to see Thompson resign. “He meant a lot,” she said Friday. “Tommy was great.”
Mayor Don Pavelko echoed the sentiment.
“He’s going to be missed,” he said. “He was all for Donora. I’m sorry to see him go.”
Council has 30 days to fill the vacancy or the position will be filled by a common pleas court judge.
Letters of intent will be accepted at the borough building until Sept. 26.
Brice hopes to fill the position at the Oct. 11 meeting.
