FAYETTEVILLE -- The Quorum Court on Thursday approved spending $1 million in federal covid-relief funds on the county's new Emergency Operations Center.
The money had initially been appropriated in 2021 for health care education facilities at Northwest Arkansas Community College and at Northwest Technical Institute, with $500,000 going to each of those institutions, but those building projects have not moved forward. The American Rescue Plan Act funds must be obligated by the county for a permitted use by Dec. 31 or returned to the federal government.
Jeff Webster, president and CEO of the Excellerate Foundation, told the justices of the peace last week the two building projects for which the funding was originally planned are not going to happen within the time frame for using the federal money.
