NEW ALBANY — Baptist Health Floyd celebrated the 100th anniversary of the organization on Thursday with a birthday celebration.

Staff members got a cake, balloons and even sang “Happy Birthday” to celebrate.

The New Albany location, 1850 State St., has been in the Baptist Health family since 2016. There are nine hospitals and more than 2,700 licensed beds in the organization.

The original Kentucky Baptist Hospital in Louisville opened its doors in November 1924 after years of rallying community support and fundraising.

This whole year, the hospital has been doing a variety of health screenings, education and more for the community in honor of the anniversary.

“The Baptist Health System provides the health care that the community needs,” said Kelly McMinoway, Baptist Health Floyd’s vice president of nursing and the chief nursing officer. “We’re happy to be a facility in Southern Indiana to provide health care services to Floyd County and the surrounding areas.”

For November, the hospital has had a focus on lung cancer awareness and has provided screenings for it.

Having the celebration the whole year with events was to make sure that they are celebrating this with the patients and their families, the community and Baptist Health employees, said Kayla Williams, Baptist Health Floyd’s human resources manager.

“I think it’s a commitment to what we do here for our patients, family and communities in our area,” Williams said. “We want to help and support them. We’ve been blessed and been able to do that for 100 years now.”
