Village People are set to perform in the US capital as part of the President-elect's inauguration festivities.
The disco group behind Donald Trump's rally staples such as Macho Man and Y.M.C.A will perform at Trump's 'victory rally' this coming Sunday at Capital One Arena in Washington DC.
They will also star, and at the Liberty Inaugural Ball, one of three major galas being held on 20 January as part of the inauguration.
The band's frontman Victor Willis - the only original member still remaining - announced in a Facebook post, "We know this won't make some of you happy to hear however we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics."
Macho Man and Y.M.C.A. routinely blared from the speakers at Trump rallies during his 2020 and 2024 campaigns. In 2024 Trump dancing to Y.M.C.A. became a viral sensation.
The original Village People formed as a macho-gay fantasy band in 1977 and quickly moved into the mainstream, scoring several disco and dance hits internationally, including the singles In the Navy and Go West. Their biggest hit, Y.M.C.A., was described in March 2020 by the Library of Congress as "an American phenomenon" and added to the National Recording Registry.
Country music star Carrie Underwood will perform America the Beautiful as part of the inauguration ceremony in Washington DC.
