Muscat – Oman Cancer Association (OCA) on Sunday signed an agreement with the Oman National Engineering and Investment Company (ONEIC) and the Oman International Hospital, to enhance the scope of cancer care in the country.

The pact is designed to enhance the treatment options for cancer patients by offering a dedicated donation platform and ensuring treatments are provided at competitive rates.

The initiative, championed by community donations via ONEIC’s platform, marks a significant step towards comprehensive cancer support in Oman.

The signing ceremony was graced by H H Dr Mona bint Fahd al Said, Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Cooperation at Sultan Qaboos University, in the presence of Dr Wahid Ali Said al Kharusi, Chairman of OCA; alongside Dr Rashid al Ghailani, CEO of ONEIC; and Marcelo Pareira, CEO of Oman International Hospital.

In his address, Dr Kharusi underscored the significance of the agreement in safeguarding the current and future generations from cancer’s impact.

The vision is not only to raise awareness and stress the importance of regular screenings but also to provide robust support for patients and their families, he pointed out.

“This collaboration is expected to foster stronger bonds within the community, offering hope and extended support to those navigating the challenging journey of cancer treatment.”

Ghailani highlighted the importance of this agreement in facilitating community contributions to support individuals battling cancer.

“With ONEIC’s vast network, including a specialised app and self-service kiosks across Oman, the initiative promises an accessible avenue for donations.”

He expressed optimism about the company’s contribution towards awareness and the broader goals of cancer care, leveraging its extensive experience in managing donations in collaboration with the Omani Charitable Organisation.

Marcelo Pareira shared the hospital’s commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare services to cancer patients, emphasising the goal to elevate disease awareness and support through specialised staff.

Yuther al Rawahi, OCA founder and a cancer survivor herself, reaffirmed her dedication to developing patient advocacy and spreading cancer awareness for early intervention and successful treatment outcomes.

The event also showcased OCA’s wide range of services for cancer patients, including mobile screening units and support facilities like Dar Al Hanan. Its successful implementation of various projects, through public-private partnerships, highlights its ongoing commitment to enhance cancer care in Oman.
