James Hannigan

James Hannigan is an award-winning composer with credits including entries in the Command and Conquer, Harry Potter, Warhammer, Theme Park and The Lord of the Rings series. Among his many other music credits are Freelancer, Evil Genius, Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (VG), Brute Force, Reign of Fire, Nintendo's Art Academy, Privateer: The Darkening, Space Hulk, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (VG), Command and Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight, Theme Park World/Sim Theme Park, Grand Prix, The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest, Republic: The Revolution, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (VG), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (VG), sci-fi TV show Primeval (series 3), several EA Sports titles and many others. James also has numerous tracks within the production libraries of Universal, Sony, Chappell, West One, Media Ventures and APM and has scored numerous commercials and trailers during his seventeen years in the industry. In earlier years while based at the Pinewood Studios complex in London, James occasionally freelanced as a Sound Designer, providing custom sound effects for films such as New Line Cinema's Lost In Space.

In 2000, James shared in a BAFTA Award with Electronic Arts for Theme Park World/Sim Theme Park and has received a further five BAFTA nominations for music in the years since. Most recently, James picked up an IFMCA (International Film Music Critics Association) award for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in 2009.

James regularly works with orchestras around the world including, among others, The Philharmonia Orchestra, the Skywalker Symphony Orchestra, The Chamber Orchestra of London and the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra - recording at locations such as Abbey Road Studios, Skywalker Ranch, Phoenix Sound and Air-Lyndhurst and frequently works with renowned ensembles and soloists such as Tony Hinnigan (Titanic, Braveheart), The Pinewood Singers, Miriam Stockley (Adiemus), Miranda Keys and Soname, to name but a few. Although comfortable in the studio working with synths, processors and sample libraries, James is also an advocate for keeping music live whenever it's possible and appropriate to do so.

Video Games Live have toured with some of James's music and, in September 2009, the Eminence Symphony Orchestra debuted the first live performance of Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3's 'Soviet March' at the Sydney Entertainment Centre as part of "A Night in Fantasia". Other public performances of James's music include a recent concert held at St. Mary's Church, Nottingham, as part of the the GameCity Festival, 2010.

Participating as a panelist at events such as Tiga's 'Games Meet Film' at Pinewood Studios, The Edinburgh International Festival alongside Stephen Deutsch, Harry Gregson-Williams and Barrington Pheloung; Musicworks, The Develop Conference and The BAFTA Interactive Festival with John Broomhall, James also writes articles and has been featured on the cover of Develop Magazine, profiled in Post, Audio Media, Resolution, Tracksounds; Music, Sound and the Moving Image (MSMI), Film Score Monthly and other publications - and has been interviewed by the BBC a number of times.
