Porter Motor Co., 601 N. Main St., Oldsmobile Dealer circa 1950, is now the current location of the Chamber of Commerce. Porter Motor Company owned by Leon Porter, was located at 200 E. Second Ave. before it moved to this location at 601 N. Main St., circa 1948. In 1958, it was then known as Dakota Motor Company, owned by Delmer W. Olson, and Wilson Tire Company, owned by Ernest G. Wilson. Olson later moved Dakota Motor Co. to 1409 N. Main St. In 1959 Wilson started selling Volkswagons and changed the name to Import Motor Company. In 1974 Wilson sold the business to Ray Case and Darwin Webb. Import Motors was at this location until 1976, when they built a new building at 1901 N. Sanborn Blvd.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "Mitchell Republic." Often, the "Mitchell Republic" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
