Your Freeview TV gets a free channel boost that matches Sky and Virgin MediaA new channel is coming to Freeview that's only be available on Sky and Virgin Media before. (Image: FREEVIEW)ByDave SnellingTechnology Editor07:30, 29 Sep 2024Updated07:47, 29 Sep 2024|commentsHomes that use Freeview to get their daily fix of entertainment and nightly content binges are soon getting more things to watch. It appears that a channel - which until now has only been available on premium Sky and Virgin services - is finally coming to more platforms and will be totally free to watch. The Eden channel, which is owned by the team at UKTV, looks set to arrive in more UK homes soon with the telly experts at Cord Busters confirming the update. For those unaware, Eden offers those tuning in the chance to view high-quality natural science programming including BBC blue chip series like Planet Earth and the UKTV Original, David Attenborough's Natural Curiosities. Other things to watch via this channel include Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, Great British Landmark Fixers, Titanic: Stories From The Deep and, Dr Christian Will See You Now and Expedition with Steve Backshall. Programmes run 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Once it goes live, viewers will be able to find it on Freeview with it called U&Eden. That's the new naming convention for all of UKTV's channels which were recently rebranded to U. This means services such as Dave, YESTERDAY and W are now called U&Dave, U&YESTERDAY and U&W. Along with arriving on Freeview, Eden should also be coming to Freesat and Freely coming months. Freesat is a free service that uses a satellite dish to beam shows and movies to TVs whilst Freely is a new platform that whizzes things to screens via the internet rather than a standard signal. Freely comes built into a number of televisions including models made by Bush, Panasonic and Hisense. Hopefully, there will be an official launch date for Eden soon - watch this space.Top Stories Don't Miss FollowMirrorFacebookX (Twitter)Comment MORE ONSteve BackshallDavid AttenboroughHisenseBBCUKTVPlanet EarthVirgin Media Inc.FreeviewGet email updates with the day's biggest storiesSign upInvalid EmailSomething went wrong, please try again later. We use your sign-up to provide content in ways youâve consented to and improve our understanding of you.
