Andros Townsend reveals 'I don't know who owns me' after transfer risk goes wrongAndros Townsend spent last season with Luton as they failed to hold onto their Premier League status and his exit from Kenilworth Road since then has not gone very smoothlyAndros Townsend spent last season with Luton (Image: Getty Images)ByDaniel OrmeFootball Writer08:27, 27 Aug 2024Updated09:58, 27 Aug 2024|commentsEx-England winger Andros Townsend has admitted he does not know which club he is contracted to despite completing a summer transfer. The former Tottenham and Everton star spent last season with relegated Luton. He made 27 Premier League appearances for the Hatters after missing the entirety of the previous campaign due to injury. Despite that, he chose to leave Luton after just a solitary season. Townsend, 33, revealed that he had put pen to paper on a deal with Turkish side Antalyaspor. But the deal has not officially been announced due to a transfer ban for the club. And that has left Townsend confused over which side he is employed by. Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, he said: âIâve had a crazy couple of weeks. Three days before the start of the season at Luton, I get a phone call from Antalyaspor, saying âwe have an offer for you but youâve got 24 hours to respond because weâve got a transfer ban coming and we need to get you in before the transfer banâ. âSo, no time to think about it. I managed to negotiate to be involved in the first game for Luton, played ten minutes in that and then it was literally all signed, all done. Then we missed the deadline by a couple of hours. âSo the contract is signed with Antalyaspor. They canât officially register me, they canât announce me, because they have a transfer ban, so Iâm literally just stuck in Antalyaspor, just training. Share your thoughts in the comments below âI dont know who owns me. Donât know where my contact is, so yeah, thatâs me. I canât play, they canât register me, they canât officially announce me because theyâve got a transfer ban, similar to what Barcelona have, at times. âI think theyâve got a dispute with just one player whoâs taking them to court, so until thatâs settled, they canât bring in any new players. But every time I ask them, they say, âthe contract is signed, youâre our player.â âBut nothingâs been announced. I canât play. Iâm literally in a hotel at the training ground just training and keeping my head down.â Townsend has already played for Luton this season having appeared as a substitute in the Hattersâ Championship opener against fellow relegated side Burnley. Fortunately, he has a little more time to complete a move to Antalyaspor. The Turkish transfer window remains open until September 13. Meanwhile, English clubs only have until this Friday to sort any remaining business. Join our new WhatsApp communityand receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
