Just 2 percent of people can solve this letter IQ test stumping nearly everyone
A brainteaser shared on X about a father's son's name left lots of users convinced they had worked it out - but can you answer it correctly without getting tripped up?
It's nice to think that we have a high intelligence by easily solving a tricky puzzle or two. With this in mind, a recent brainteaser shared on X (formerly Twitter) claims that the vast majority of people fail a certain IQ test question. So if you're smart enough to work this one out then the good news is that you're part of the elite 2% of the public.
A user under the name Pro Brain Teaser, who regularly poses challenging brainteasers, asked their 10,000 followers a question that on the surface seems easy enough. All you have to do is figure out what the name of a dad's son is after being told the name of his four other sons.
The full post reads: "IQ Test 98% of the people fail. Johnny's father has 5 sons. Zaze, Zeze, Zize and Zoze. What is the name of the fifth son?" If you recognised the pattern of vowels occurring in the sons' names as you move down the list then you could probably fill in the last son's name. The post had more than 2,100 views and 236 replies and scrolling down the comments reveals that many people used this reasoning to come up with the answer 'Zuze' as 'u' is the last remaining unused vowel.
Unfortunately this is the wrong answer and the fifth son's name is actually there for all to see right from the start of the question: Johnny. The craftily-worded puzzle is liable to make you forget about this son instantly and instead force you to overthink it with the vowels. As one person on X commented: "People who said Zuze. That is Incorrect its Jonny." Another wrote: "Its Johnny... For those that says Zuze, think again. Read the question thoroughly and understand it. You'll get your answer there. CAPICHE."
This follower was clearly tripped up, however, writing: "ZuZe, all the second letters are vovels in order," and another was certain they were right, saying: "Obviously zuze to people who have eyes."
Elsewhere, another tricky brainteaser concerning families asked people to split £7936 left by a father between his widow and children. The post on Reddit began: "A man has died leaving nearly £8000 to be divided between his widow, four daughters, and three sons He stipulated that each daughter should receive twice as much as their mother, and each son twice as much as their mother. If the exact amount left was £7936, how much should the widow receive?"
The original poster of this tricky brainteaser admitted in the post that they were pretty confused by this one, and couldn't find an answer that made sense. If you think you can answer this one then read the full article here to see what other people came up with.
