Bryan Adams has revealed the first reaction he got to his hit (Everything I Do) I Do It For You was BOOOOO.

He recorded the power ballad for the soundtrack to 1991 film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, but the film producers hated it.

Adams, 62, said: “If you go to the film you’ll notice the song doesn’t appear until after this gigantic, massive score happens and the Dolby sign starts to come up and it says ‘the end’.

“So they weren’t happy with it – but they were very happy with what happened with it after.”

And that is understandable because the song became one of the best-selling singles of all time, selling more than 15 million copies and staying at No1 in the UK charts for a record 16 weeks on the trot.

The Canadian singer songwriter told the Rockonteurs podcast how movie bosses had wanted to change the song title to “I’ll Die For You”, but he refused and dug his heels in.

He said: “No one really liked the song at the film company. They tried to get me to change the song title to ‘I’ll Die For You’.

“I said, ‘Nah, I’m not changing anything. If you don’t like it, too bad’.”

He also revealed that the song, co-written by Michael Kamen and Robert Lange, took less than an hour to write.

He said: “From the moment we started it to completing the whole arrangement, was about 45 minutes. It just happened.”

The film, with Kevin Costner as Robin Hood, was a hit, taking £310million at the box office.
