Abbott

(NYSE: ABT)

has appointed Dr. Ethan Korngold as its new divisional VP of medical affairs and chief medical officer for its Vascular business.

Korngold succeeds Dr. Nick West, who spent four years as CMO and divisional VP of global medical affairs at Abbott Vascular. West departed in September to become associate chief medical officer at Shockwave Medical, which Johnson & Johnson is now acquiring.

The new CMO joins Abbott with more than 20 years of medical practice. He most recently served as medical director of interventional cardiology and structural heart at the Providence Heart and Vascular Institute. According to LinkedIn, he spent eight years at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital.

Julie Tyler, Abbott SVP and president of the Vascular unit, welcomed Korngold in a LinkedIn post. She said he brings a proven track record with an emphasis on coronary and peripheral interventions.

“As we work to deliver life-changing technologies to more people around the world, I’m confident his expertise and leadership will be instrumental in driving our mission forward,” Tyler wrote.

Korngold said in a separate LinkedIn post that, over the course of his career, he helped lead initiatives and research designed to push the boundaries of possibilities in cardiovascular patient care.

“Coming from a background in interventional cardiology, I’m eager to bring my experience in cardiac and peripheral interventions to an organization already pioneering in the field,” he said. “I look forward to continuing that journey at Abbott, where the commitment to innovative, life-changing solutions is a clear priority.
