What is Edit Check?
Edit Check is a feature developed to offer people actionable feedback about Wikipedia policies while they are editing. The first iteration consists of a prompt to encourage editors to add an inline citation before publishing new information to an article.
All edits are tagged. You can suggest your ideas for other checks.

Spoorthi Rao (talk) 04:49, 1 October 2024 (UTC) Above mentioned user is citing his or her personal opinion and destroying article's credibility.
- Hello @Spoorthi Rao
- Thank you for reporting this.
- After investigation, the activation of Edit check (see here how it looks) was accurate.
- It also appears that the user you mentioned would have had changed the article no matter what. When the request to add a reference was shown, the added a random website instead of declining the request.
- Hope this helps; if you have any question, let me know! Trizek_(WMF) (talk) 14:08, 2 October 2024 (UTC)

- Edit Check (references) activated, Edit Check (referințe) respins (incert)
- Description
- The edit contains sources. Not sure if they were added after the prompt, but either way, it's confusing to have the rejected tag

- Another diff, same situation. Strainu (talk) 10:59, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Strainu Hello, technically the Edit Check detects every paragraphs to see if it contains any citations or not. As far as I can see, there are paragraphs that do not contain any sources in the provided diff, so it is not a false positive. Do you have any opinions or suggestions? Thanks. SCP-2000 (talk) 04:38, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification @SCP-2000. Does the limit of characters from MediaWiki:Editcheck-config.json also applies per paragraph or overall? E.g. if I add 50 characters in one paragraph and 51 in the second with a limit of 100 characters, will EdiitCheck be triggered? Strainu (talk) 08:00, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Strainu: It is per paragraph. SCP-2000 (talk) 12:38, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- A posible explanation would be:
- the user adds contents to the first paragraph, with a source
- they add content to the second paragraph with no source
- they add a new paragraph with no source
- they click "publish"
- the edit is not publish; they get the check for the paragraph (the one listed at step 3)
- they decline (Edit check will tag the edit accordingly)
- they realize that the new paragraph shouldn't be there and delete it
- they click "publish"
- We are considering adding the Checks as a mid-edit experience: they would appear, in a sidebar, as the problem arises. This way, users could immediately improve their edit. We would tag the final result only (users who haven't improved the highlighted issues).
