Netizens said an EastWest Bank account number ending in 5239 was deducting thousands of pesos from their GCash wallets.
\r\r
"EastWest Bank has been made aware of news reports regarding unauthorized cash transfers from GCash into an alleged EWB account," the bank said in a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Tuesday.
\r\r
"The Bank immediately acted on these reports and initiated an internal investigation. Rest assured that EastWest is cooperating with authorities and other institutions involved in the said report and working toward the immediate resolution on the matter," it said.
\r\r
Asia United Bank (AUB) also released a similar statement after one of its accounts, with an account number ending in 3008, was allegedly involved in unauthorized GCash transactions.
\r\r
"On May 8, 2023, AUB was alerted by GCash on certain GCash transactions that involved the transfer of funds via InstaPay to an AUB account. AUB immediately acted upon the alert and temporarily put the AUB account on hold," the bank said in a statement on Wednesday.
\r\r
AUB Head of Legal Services and Data Privacy Officer Emma Cabochan said the bank was cooperating with GCash to resolve the issue.
\r\r
"Be assured that we at AUB are extending our utmost cooperation with GCash in so far as looking into the said AUB account," Cabochan said.
\r\r
GCash, Globe Telecom's e-wallet arm, adjusted users' wallets after a lengthy maintenance procedure. The issues were said to have been resolved on Tuesday, however, some users reported still having problems with bank transfers as of Wednesday.
\r\r
